Profiling a dynamic library

I'm not sure how to proceed on this so I thought I'd throw this out for suggestions. I'm currently developing a realtime windows app in Visual C++ (.Net 2003) that utilizes a garbage-collected scripting language. The scripting language is encapsulated in two .lib/.dll's. I can interface with these fine but I'm having problems with the windows-specific code that actually garbage collects. It was recommended to me that I profile the code to find where it hangs, but I had a few concerns with this. First off, I think I've only ever profiled in C/C++ in a short week intro to the topic several years ago in school with Metrowerks. I may not have even done that though it sounds correct. Anyway, I have the MSVC projects that build the scripting language libraries, but is it possible to profile that (as that is where the problem is) when it's not directly related to the project I'm working on? I'm downloading DevPartner Profiler now so maybe that'll answer my question, but I doubt it. Hopefully that was coherent, thanks in advance for any help.

It's certainly possible, yes; whether or not you can do it with DevPartner I am not sure. The trick is you need to compile a special build of the .dll with debug/profiling information in it and feed that into your profiling/debugging tools. You'll have to use the projects that build the .dlls in order to do this. Whichever tools you end up using should have documentation on how to manage this.
