Alpha Blending

As far as I know, you can only do alpha blending if you have a pointer to the screen memory (or a buffer), and the image you want to alpha blend. In Java this is impossible (but I could be wrong...).
I suggest you use DirectX, and get a pointer to the primary surface (or a back buffer), and a pointer to the (bitmap) image.
Only then I can help you further.
You can also do it with Direct3D/OpenGL, but that's another story.
