Does anyone know what the memory overhead for a texture is? I need to find the right balance between texture size and the overhead. Larger textures might waste space in my case because the full area of them won't be used, but they will result in less state changes. Smaller textures will waste memory through the overhead. The small amount of memory wasted wouldn't be an issue normally, but I'm trying to get my game to work on as many cards as possible.

It depends on the hardware of course, but in terms of just memory, the overhead is probably close to 0.
