I sometimes get the feeling of being all alone even when in a room full of people !!! It''s as if everyone is there but no-one is real !!!! It''s worse now that I have realized it is happening because I seem to get the feeling more often, maybe because I am concentrating on it too much ?? Do any of you guys get that same problem or is it just me ???? Cheers, MK83

ohhh yeah. I think its because i know allot of people but none i can really relay to, im to diferent from everybody, thats why i find myself being quiet all the time and when i go get a drink with my class mates they are all talking but im quiet because they are talking about things i dont give a fuck about-like cars or something, i dont know a single person that is interested in programming. But that doesnt bother me that much ive allways been diferent and alone.

I think everyone feels alone at some point, I get like that too I sometimes think I have to go talk to a shrink but I don''t like shrinks so I never go. Today I was thinking about this actually, and I think that I am afraid of success. Which is why I don''t finish anything I start. I have to work through this.

I definetly feel your pain!

Used to, and at first to fight it I used to drink, but that didn''t solve the problem at all.
I found out that if I felt like that, if I started working on anything that needed work I wouldn''t have any more time to feel lonely. But now that I''m older, wiser, and my brain is gone bad, I don''t feel too lonely anymore, actually I enjoy time alone.
I do emphatize with you, but sooner or later it passes (you either get tougher, or you simply won''t have time to feel like that).

I''ve felt that a lot. Luckily, when I went to university I met a person I could really talk to! Now we''re best friends with benefits. So don''t give up hope! If it can happen to me it can happen to anyone.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

Wow, that comment about people not seeming real sure sounds familiar. Especially when I''ve been holed up in my room working on a game (or anything else) all day, sometimes I''ll go out and it will seem like despite what my eyes are telling me, I''m really the only one there.

It used to bother me, but it really doesn''t anymore. I have a couple of close friends, but they are hundreds of miles from here, and even though I couldn''t ask for better friends, they don''t share my interests when it comes to this kind of stuff, so it seems like nobody understands what drives me, or why I''d rather tinker with Visual C++ than go to a party.

I imagine that sooner or later it may start bothering me again, but I know I can probably change the situation if I want to, so I don''t really worry about it. Don''t worry; I think it''s normal. For us weird people anyway.

This happens to me too when other people are doing something I''m just not interested about. The only solution is to hang around with people with (semi-)similar interests and thoughts. Actually, this happened to me a lot before I started meeting my online friends in real life, I just didn''t get along with most of my school friends.

Hmmm, I found I''ve been getting that recently as well, and realizing it did''nt help at all. I feel like the whole physical world around me is dieing, and no one could be bothered.

As for feeling alone, even though I''m popular, I just use my friends, none of them mater to me, they''re there for entertainment. So I am pretty lonely, but I''ve been like that for many years. I love the company of my own head, hence my personal philosophy :

"It is better to have an idle mouth than an idle conversation"

Even though I can relate to my friends, we have quite a bit in common, I suppose I am looking for someone who sees the world the way I do.

Quite harsh ehh?
It is better to have an idle mouth as oppose to an idle conversation.Consequences only serve to enhance the experience of expressing ones freedom to choose.

My problem is that the closest living really good friend of mine lives about 30km (19mi) away. Luckily I can travel there (to Helsinki/Espoo) easily by bus. Driving license is also a blessing.

It seems we all have some sort of common theme, our close friends are far away plus we are all quite unique compared to the average human being !! Daemon - I know what you mean about the drink, it seems to only make things worse !! Funnyly enough
WolfMaster I have also seriously been thnking about seeing a shrink, but am scared they will lock me up for life !!!

Anycase thanks for all the replys guys, it''s good to know that you are not alone even if it''s only in feeling alone !!!

Happens to me too.I think it''s like that with most people like us.People who are different, who do not care about the newest fashions or shit like that."Nerds" .
Oh, and this feeling of nothing being real : it happened to me once so badly that I really thought I was either going mad or reality was collapsing.I really have no idea what it was.

I''m secretly terrified that I''ll mistake someone for somebody else, or that someone will be an evil impostor type person who is pretending to be someone else. At night I can''t see much and I am afraid that someone will kill me. The strange thing is it only happens at night when there is nobody else around. As far as stuff not being real, I never experienced that.

Interacting with people, regardless of whether or not you have the same interests, is easy... if you follow a couple simple rules.

1) Ask questions. They don''t just want to hear about your life. People love to talk about things they''re interested in. You don''t have to know jack about what they''re talking about.

2) Care. Or at least listen. People love it when you listen. People will think you''re a brilliant conversationalist if you listen. Retain eye contact (or at least try to get some in, I know this is hard for some of us), nod, make it clear you''re paying attention.

Usually when you feel "out of touch" with the room, it''s because you''re concentrating on your differences. It''s good to be unique, and appreciate your uniqueness, but appreciate the uniqueness of others as well. If you go into a room with the attitude "I am a computer geek. I am SPECIAL. I am DIFFERENT. I do NOT FIT IN." people will get bad vibes from you... everyone fears social rejection. I''m not saying you have to stand there and suffer through someone''s detailed description of their appendectomy and how they videotaped it... but you might just be able to find someone with a similar interest, or learn about something you had never considered trying.

That sounds nice and easy, and might work in theory, sometimes even in practice, but some people just don''t get along, no matter how hard you try.
