<this is a copy of a mail sent to Chris yesterday - but not yet answered> Hi, I am on the lookout for a 3D engine for use in my run-time engine in my Master''s Thesis in Computer Science. I am seriously considering buying a license for PowerRender. I have a few questions about the licencing though. First, does the student license allow commercial use of the derived product? My system is a game development tool for computer role-playing games. I plan to develop an interpreter for my specialized scripting language for users to change. The question is, my I sell such a product without violating the PowerRender license? If I have users that modify these scripts may they then sell the modified version to other people? If not, may they then give it away for free? Is must emphasize that the libraries and code are kept with me alone and that the others only distribute the exactly same executable build of the code. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Jacob Marner

Here is my response:

"While the license says that you can''t make a competing product (ie dev tool) I don''t think I will have time in the future to make something similar. Therefore you have my permission to make such a product.

The student version license allows commercial use. The license is the same, only the price is different."

Obviously you can''t take my libs, wrap them in your own function names and sell the new libs. However any kind of compiled executable that allows non-programmers to make games is fair. I really don''t see myself trying to make something like that in the next few years, if ever.
