Hey... does anyone know any online tutorials or sites (easy to read) that are geared toward learning C++ if you already know VB? Especially good if they have Windows- or DirectX-specific code and stuff.

Thanks!

I don't think that knowing VB will help you much for learning C++. I learned C++ after using VB for a while and I have to say that the languages are so dissimilar. You can, however, just take your OOP and Event-driven OS experience to get a C++/MFC book.... . I'ts a pretty big book, but its good. Its called "Beginning Visual C++ 6.0", Ivor Horton, Wrox Press. Its a fine guide to the language C++ and it then goes on to actually writing Windows apps with the Microsoft Foundation Classes. Good luck.

Aww... that means I have to spend money! Maybe... is it in plain English and stuff or is it all crazily technical? How much is this generally?

So, nobody has any web sites on this or downloadable documents for VB->C++?

Thanks for your help.

Methinks it helps a little to know VB.
2 years ago, I saw first time a part of C++ code and boy what a mess it was! Now, I understand at least little bit more of C++ though I'm not going to learn it (yet).
And this board has helped me to understand it, thanks alot

Knowing VB will help as it will give you an understanding of programing concepts. I learnt VB after having got quite good at MFC VC++4 so I can't give too much advice.

When I larnt C++ I came from a Pascal/Ada background and bought a book called 'C++ for Programmers' I seem to remember that it was ok.

If you are after free then the following URL has a couple of C++ books in electronic form. It may help you to take a look at

Good luck,
