Since some people are getting copies of Doom3 this weekend, and as soon as everybody gets them, everybody is going to want to talk about it, I'm starting an official thread for ALL Doom3 related jibber-jabber. Don't clone 900 other threads in the next week or two to talk about it, discuss it here, and keep it as dramafree as possible. Now, some teaser material. Hmm...do I buy it now and play it on my old 1.4ghz machine, or wait until end of August to play it when I get my brand spanking new machine?

Where can I get this Final Trailer you speak of?

Its just too damn unrealistic; half robotic monsters, factories that look like the Alien spaceships, guns that do little more than my Paintball gun for damage.

I even read that the ID guys were focusing D3 on the adventure genre as opposed to the action genre; eg.. no running into rooms filled with hundreds of monsters.

Now if the creatures in Doom3 died one-hit from a pistol to the chest. And if the hero in Doom3 died one hit from a slash attack from a monster. And if the monsters weren't mutated humans, but actually were the spirits of the dead coming through the portal in the forms of simplified mythological creatures (Skeleton, Minotaur, Zombie, Giant Scorpian), of course with a touch of Doom3 model magic. And in MASSIVE numbers (eg.. a simple stage consisting of thausands of these creatures). That would be a neat game IMO.

I'm just REALLY not a fan of the "Run circles around the monsters while shooting them with the chaingun waiting for them to run out of health so that they'll die".

Edit: @Salsa, its not a question of understanding it.

Dude, it's Doom. You know what, I can't even bother trying to explain it to you. If you don't get Doom, you never will.

So, let me get this straight: It's unrealistic for demons to not die in 1 shot (fair enough), but it would be MORE realistic if minotaurs and zombies were coming out of a portal from hell? Oh, ok...

You really need to play Pain Killer. It satistfies just about everything you stated. Heck I'd play it just to see the last level in hell. Its the best resprentation of hell I've ever seen.

What kind of shitty game would kill your character in 1 hit from an enemy? I can't even imagine how utterly tedious and frustrating a game like that would be.

The awesome kind. The ones I used to play on my NES growing up.

Ever heard of real life?

@reaptide
I've played the PainKiller demo; and that game sucks beyond recognition. The animations are crap, the AI is crap, the fact that monsters just keep spawning is crap.

Not all creatures die one hit either, and the monsters in that game are still horribly ugly and unrealistic.

@23yrold3yrold
GoldenEye for the N64 did it for me. 4-Player mode with people at "-10 Hero" health. I'd never had so much fun on a videogame before in my life. Anyone remember Proximity & Remote mines?

@MikeMJH (Below)
I envisioned someone would flame that comment.
What would you say about... hrm... The Sims?
Also, when do I care what most people think?

@Estese (Earlier)
Obviously the game woudln't be much like your use to. Monsters wouldn't just spawn behind you, and the map wouldn't be rigged so that when you step on a particular spot, a monster spawns behind you. Picture the orignal RainbowSix games; its also unlikey you'd be by yourself in saving the world.

@Salsa (Far bottom [razz])
Read it again, I backed it up a little. And... he did flame it.

@Etnu (Near top)
I could see a Demon not dying one hit (Like a boss or something), but yes, other monsters die if shot in a vital organ (Lungs, Heart, Brain). I knew someone would flame my selection of mythological creatures, and I noted "With a touch of Doom3 Model Magic" just so that you woudln't picture Age of Mythologoly like creatures in all their color and brightness. Minotaurs are already in Doom3, they just have some crazy changes to them, and remember that most monstesr we see in games like PainKiller and Doom2 originated from Roman Mythologoly, they just made em' more grim.

Also, do you have to quote everything I said? Whats wrong with just addressing my name?

@Everyone else.
I was just giving my opinion on what I thought would make Doom3 a great game (for me). Stop flaming me; your ruining this thread!

Er..since when do most people play games to simulate real life? Most people play games to escape from reality.

Then why say it? It's a completely groundless and pointless thing to use as an argument. Also, Mike didn't "flame" it at all..what are you talking about? He made a completely legit, short and simple reply.
