Qbasic ROCKS!!!.....um, yeah

Original Post
Hey there people! I started programming with qbasic back in fifth grade and I was wondering what languages everyone here started with.
If you have a screen shot of your first program that would be cool too.

Lemmie find my qbasic 3d space shooter and I''ll post a pic of it. Now that was the poop!
I used QBasic when I started, and now I know it like the back of my hand. Unfortunately, QBasic is very slow compared to compiled languages, and has little ability to do Object Oriented Programming. Yeah, it has functions and "sub"s now, but that''s still a far cry from the power of other languages.
I made a 2D asteroids game, and quickly found out how SLOW the graphics are. That you made something 3D surprises me. Is it wireframe? Did you use any ASM?
Also, the graphics modes are limiting.
But it was a start, and it was the only thing on our computer at the time . . . I grew to like it, until I discovered C and C++.

Mine was Basic A
I don''t think Logo counts, does it? I learned it from my TI 85. Text adventures were the poop, but I found that I spent more time in class programing it then I did on my work, ooops. I started a 2d shooter, and you want to talk slow. I wrote a bitmap algo that took up half of the entire memory, it didn''t help that the bitmap took up a quarter of the memory. Ahhh... memories, what were we talking about?

Snootchie Bootchies!

Cartridge basic on an 8086 baby. If you started it up without the DOS boot disk, you got cartridge basic, with the cool command line at the bottom (TRON actually had nothing to do with the movie, unfortunately).
My first program was a spaceship that would "blast off!!" the bottom of the screen. Something akin to:
....followed by 25 PRINTs, so it would scroll off the top of the screen very slowly (8086, remember?).
=) I think I was 10.

Yeah! QBasic!
I learned that way back in grade 6. It was kinda cool...just a bit too slow....

does c++ count..then the basics off C++ then Java
I wish there was a button on my monitor to turn up the intellegince.
Theres a button called 'brightness' but it doesn't work

I started making very very very simple programs with GW-Basic with my ol'' PacBell 286. About two months later, I discovered QBasic at which point the only basic changes to my programs were that I no longer needed to give every line a number. Woohoo! Just recently got back to programming.. at which I picked up VB and VC++. I haven''t programmed in QBasic for at least five years. Lol. Those were the days...
'Woe to the vanquished!' was stern Brenno's word,
When sunk proud Rome beneath the Gallic sword.
'Woe to the vanquished!' when his massive blade
Bore down the scale against her ransom weighed;
And on the field of foughten battle still,
Woe knows no limit save the victor's will.

Wow man, I started with Basic in the 5th grade on an Apple II computer. It used 5" floppy disks!!
I guess the really sad part is my school still had the same setup when I was a senior, so my real programming education started way later than I would have liked.

assembler...hehe just kidding. i learned C/C++ in the last year. but i haved some logic classes(three weeks) before it

Hello all.
Well, when I was in 9th grade I was gifted with a Tandy TRS 80 CoCo II. I learned it''s basic language, and how to plot a circle a pixel at a time (eg, not using the language''s Circle function, but instead, using Pixel and Sin/Cos).
The next language a learned about was assembler, and I went to Radia Shack and bought a book on that subject and asked the salesman: "Do I need any software to take the most out of this book?" He said "NO". Well, what do salesmen know anyway? I needed an assembler, of course. But I could not afford one, so I had to code the machine instructions to make some little function to clear the screen. I was shocked between the diference in execution time when comparing my little asm function to the equivalent in BASIC.
And so continues the story ....

ZX Spectrum single keystroke BASIC. If any of you know what a ZX Spectrum is, it used the Z80 instruction set, and had an OS which was just basic. To run a program, you put the tape in the the tape recorder, and did the load command. You then waited 15 minutes for it to load into the 48k RAM. Then you did the RUN command. If you were lucky the program would run, otherwise you would have to load it again. To write a program, you put 10 and then the first line of the program. Then 20 and the next line of the program. To see what the program looked like, you typed list. The good thing about it though, was you didn''t have to type out each keyword individually, each key represented a keyword in the OS. My best program was not terribly good. I only really started game programming with DirectX.
