Can someone PLEASE tell me the best book or a really good website for 3D math.(i''d prefer a website, cause i gots no money I don''t know that much math yet(i''m a sophmore in high school) i''m taking geometry now and i''ve looked through the book and it''s helped some, but I still don''t know any trig or linear algebra. I''m pretty tired of reading through books and stuff and not knowing what the hell they''re doing. PLEASE help!!! Thanks, Bino

There is some stuff at http://www.tasteofhoney.freeserve.co.uk/tutorials.html#3dmtf

That is part of www.mr-gamemaker.com, if you''d like to see the entire site.

There are even a few articles on Gamedev.net. They have articles on Vectors and Matrix operations which is a great starting point.

You''re a sophmore and you still don''t know any trig?

You guy must have a weird curriculum down there. We learn trig (basic trig ratios and uses) in gr. 11.

Yup, this is a pretty useless post. I will say that I find for math type things a formal class gives the most understanding, then a book, and lastly I''d turn to the web.

Everything I''ve learned on the web and then taken in a class at school, I find I understand the topic way more after the class.

That may just be me.

Hey , Sophmore = gr10
And Geometry is the class before trig

You need to do the math to learn it, and it will take lots of time. If you can't sleep through your geometry class, it may be difficult to pick up additional topics that require it as a basis. Geometry is pretty isolated as far as math goes, but all those geometry tricks are useful in graphics. You may learn guassian elimation in your geometry class, in which case you'll need to learn about matrices first.

I'd suggest asking your math teacher, depending on how well you know him or her and how modivated they are to actually teach. Specifically you need to know how to do a 3D dot product, a 3D cross product, how to multiply 4D matrices, and how to form translation & rotation matrices. To really understand the 3D API's you need to also know about something called Affine space, which is just a 4D matrix math that contains both a rotation & translation.

I think if you just ask your teacher about matrix math they may just bump you into the next class

And I don't know any *good* books on 3D graphics math, though I have several books on the subject. I took a 3D graphics class for my senoir project in college (MCS525) and learned remarkable little, especially considering it was a graduate course. Well, I guess I learned how to make a "house" (cube) & "tree" (cyclinder & sphere) spin using OGL.

The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara
