I am using C++ if it matters, please help, ive already done cout crap so i know cout, well please help.

Write a text adventure I learnt tons doing that and if nothing else its good practice. Try to use linked lists and classes practise helps a lot.

Write a program that asks for a list of numbers, then sorts them, then prints out the sorted list.

You can use an array to hold the numbers, and you could find sorting algorithms almost anywhere on the net. Heck, gamedev probably has some. Start with the bubble sort, since its really easy, then move onto some harder sorts.

This sounds lame, but it was a university level assignment, and its good practice.

Write a mastermind type game where the program picks a number of letters and the user has to guess the order and the letters

rewrite doom in text mode

I''ve actually thought about doing 3D in text-mode... It wouldn''t look real, but that doesn''t mean it wouldn''t look good. Seems like it would be a really cool demo effect.

Doom in text mode is something I would like to see. You could get an effective resolution of 80x50 because there is one character which takes up the lower half of the letter and one which takes up the top. This gives an aspect ratio of 1.6, which is the same aspect ratio as 320x200. It would run quite quick, and use not very much memory. But it would not look very nice. Still, it seems not a bad thing to try.

Double posted again!

Why the heck is there a 2 second pause between pressing the button to post, and IE actually deciding to do something?

How would you make doom in text-mode (no, I don''t mean actually technically how)? That seems a little weird. Would you have an aiming rectacal on the screen or would you use the mouse? I''m trying to imagine this, but it just ain''t working.

it woudn''t be that hard actually
for a wireframe game, you could just write line-drawing functions that would just use ascii art and then use 3d math to draw them..

You would draw it in ascii, as I said in my previous post in 80x25 text mode you can get an effective resolution of 80x50. Nibbles (the QBasic snake game) does this. You would have a few triangle drawing functions. It would be rather blocky though. As I remember Doom doesn''t have a crosshairs as you cannot look or aim up or down as it uses 2d BSP trees.
