Hi! I just want to ask where I can download the source codes of some of the classic-commercial-games, like quake. -Thanks
Forget about that buggy code, let's start all-over - from scratch. Let's go!

go to my site using IE because i haven''t fised it properly for netscape yet, go to the c++ section, then the download sub-section to find quake, heretic, and hexen.

So, if you have the source code available for Quake, does that mean I can download it, open it up in my VC++, compile it, and play the real game for free?

No.

The sources are made available for those interested who want to learn ''how it was done'', with regard to the different aspects of the game''s engine and technical capabilities.

But the media is not included. What you have in the source is the object management, the renderers, the network code, and so on. The actual artwork, levels, and sounds are not included, if I recall correctly.

The point is for people to be able to learn, not leech free gamez.

Thank you for the first part of your response. It just didn't make sense to me why a company would put out the source if people could compile it on there own. That is why I asked.

i dont think he was calling you a ''leech''

you shoudn''t get offended, he was only pointing out the fact that if you could just download the source and play it, then people would just leech the source all over the net, and no one would buy it..

Thanks for all the replies. I want to download the source code because I want to know what the hell is going on under the hood of a 3D engine, specifically, the quake engine.

-Thanks again.

if you already have quake, you already have the media, so CAN compile and run quake (including any modifications you make!)

MatrixCubed, it seems I missinterrpreted your post, I am honestly sorry for that and I also did not mean to sound so ticked off in my response to it.
Anonymous Poster, I thought he called me a leech on this page, and for that I was offended, if you were offended by the email you found for me, that is not my concern because I did not post it on the topic page, you had to find it yourself. Also, had you tried to email me, you would have found that is no longer my address. I changed it myself because I felt it too offensive. There is a story as to why it was created, but that is not important here.
Sorry to all that I offended, especially MatrixCubed.
