This is a non-game related question, but I''m pretty sure that this is an easy question for some of you. Here it goes: Do you guys know how long AMD is going to produce Slot A based Athlon? And up to what speed? Is everything Athlon going to be Socket A based from now on? Thank you.

The latest chips from AMD are Socket A. The only way to find the latest Slot A CPU''s is to find one OEM. AMD is moving totally away from the Slot A design. You''d be better off getting a Socket A based motherboard.

Well, it''s not that I want to buy an AMD based system. I built a system for a friend of mine few weeks before the release of Socket A Athlon(that was about 3-4 months ago). I just read a sentence or two about how AMD is moving away from Slot A, and I feel really bad for making him a Slot A system. So I want to know how long AMD is going to support Slot A... Thanks.

No big deal there, the computer is built. When he upgrades he''ll probably want to get a new mainboard anyway, for whatever other cool features have appeared since you built the one he has now (DDR RAM, for instance). I''ve got a Slot A Athlon and it doesn''t bother me a bit. Next iteration will probably be a Socket A TBird but that won''t be for a while yet. If you''re really brave you could crack the CPU case and overclock it for him

Also, you can get adapter boards with which you can put Socket A chips into a Slot A mainboard (one of which I have )

What comes after that you can forget with current hardware anyway so there
