Guys, I don''t mind you advertising your sites, I don''t mind you advertising your games, projects, demos, etc. I encourage it! I don''t even care if you say "You''re a bloody god, everyone bow down and worship". BUT... the swearing, the rude posts, and the pointless messages have got to stop! I have personally been attacked quite a few times, and although it bothers me, I try not to take it to heart. However, it really makes me wonder why I bother coming to the forum!? I set this forum up so everyone that needs help has a place to as questions. So that people can advertise, and so that we all have a place we can get together and talk. Kids read these messages! Innocent people are being flamed! It''s rediculous! Can you not act your ages? Do I have to remove the forum? Do you think posting crap to the message boards is making you look cool? Anyways... I''ve said all I have to say. I would rather see all those anonymous posters getting involved in the forum. They talk like they know everything so why not help people out instead of flame everyone!? Wouldn''t you rather have someone say "man, that guy is cool, he helps alot of people out" than "man what a twit!" ? TTYL

I agree

There''s absolutely no reason why people should behave like this. Anyhow, have you noticed this only happens in YOUR forum :-) ?
Don''t see that much swearing in the other GDNet forums
Maybe the forum''s objectives are wrong
Couldn''t it be a OpenGL forum ? Like how about combining yours with glVelocity, which totalises a ridiculous amout of 121 posts and is not read by anyone ?
This forum has got good threads, the problem is that it is also a big complaints zone :

-prob with tute 6
-opengl doesnt work on my computer
-tute 10 doesnt compile
-dx vs gl

i mean, i''m not against forums where people post cause they got trouble with ur code, but it might be a good idea to have a forum dedicated to problems and tute suggestions on, lets say, your own website (which imho would be the obvious place to have it, and not mirror it to GCnet), and an other forum here on GDnet about OpenGL relevant questions, yours combined with glVelocity is a good idea

what do you think
personally i think that the swearing is relevant to the nature of this kinda forum.

nehe ur cool, don''t be influenced by a binch of bastards :-)

I don''t mind complaints as long as the people complaining have a reason. For example if something didn''t work for them, they can say "hey, this doesn''t work... because" or "hey, this doesn''t work... do you know why?".

I am aware that I can delete posts, I have deleted a few, but the point is that I shouldn''t have to. I don''t see a need to merge with another forum, I think this forum holds its own for content, I think the people being twits should really think about what they are posting, and maybe try to be a little more mature. I don''t mind the posts that I find funny... immature posts made to make us laugh, or whatnot, but when someone jumps on the board and basically searches for people to attack, whether it''s me, a new GL programmer, or some other site OP, that''s just stupid. Why even visit the forum if you''re not here to contribute to or read the messages?

Finally a crackdown. Well, I''d have to say that, yes, there are the immature posters among us who have nothing better to do with their time than flame important people such as NeHe or people who help others... But then there are the invaluable words of the helpful people that are needed to give you that extra boost. I come here so that I can help people and it''s just a great boost to my resume i might add. All those people thanking me for helping them and things... But that''s me, and I''m not being egotistical or whatever, I just like to know that I am able to help someone... Plus, I like to know that I can post any question and someone will be able to give me the answer... That''s why this forum is an essential part to learning GL. Sure, you could just read the well commented tuts and everything, but then you might not understand the full capability of GL unless you can ask other people who have fooled around with it or learned from someone else or whatever... Wow, ranting is fun.

Please Listen to him guys! If you want to see how bad this problem is look at my post about Transparency. I start out asking a simple question about GL and the entire post ends up being a war on flames! Cant a guy ask a simple question and get a simple answer without being flamed? Give Nehe, And everyone else wanting to learn GL, a break!

I agree, all the flaming etc from anonymous posters is quite annoying...a lot of oher forums i''ve been to require that you are registered in order to post replies (but can read posts freely)- could anything like that be done here?...that way you could permanently bar trouble makers?

i also think the attacks on nehe are really terrible - ones like "you can''t programme you''re rubbish" - i find the tutorials really useful & the anon complainers don''t seem to be bothered to explain their "proper" ways of doing thing...so we''re all stuck in the dark using techniques which work pretty well!
(sorry if this went a bit off track, but i really like this site & want nehe to keep running it, so occasionally ranting sets in!)

I agree with all of you that something has to be done, but I really don´t think that it will help to force people to register, maybe a few flamers will disappear but the rest of them will register with false information and keep on making trouble... =(

As long as those people think they are cool, there ain´t much too do... You can´t "hide" something from the flamers without "hiding " it from the people that is truly needed here...

We all know (except the flamers maybe...), that it ain´t the flamers who made this site what it is today...

The greatest programmer ain´t the loudest one...

Or, NeHe could appoint other mods so that if he misses something or just doesn''t sensor something for some reason, someone who reads the forum frequently and posts frequently can sensor out the words/posts that are offensive... this way only a few people who got there before him can see the offensive material. also, isn''t there a way for the mod to set it so that it puts stars instead of the offensive words? ... just a thought.

Checking into making the forum registered only ... so the user has to register with a valid email. Unfortunately I dont own the message board, so I''m not able to make changes to the code.

Perhaps we should ignore the flamers?
It might be attention they are seeking, and we are giving them this.

Maybe it''s a good a idea to merge the message board from my site an Nehe, it''s really not going on much in my forum. I could watch over this forum as a second moderator. Your opinions ?

Yes, i thank that ignoring flamrs is a good idea, if not the best
tcs, if you have time, it could be quite good to (partly) relieve Nehe form one of the many tasks he does.

WDUS Nehe ?
