When I load something to memory or allocate memory for something, where does it go to? Is it the RAM memory or the conventional memory, which computers normally have 640 k? In anycase, wouldn''t it be best to load the whole program to memory when the program runs and get sure performance? Not of course if the program is 50 Mb big, but what I''d like to know is, how much stuff can I load to memory.

When you allocate memory, under Win32 it will be allocated anywhere in the current data page which is free. If you don''t use it for a while it will go into virtual memory, and will be retrieved from virtual memory into real memory when you use it again. It''s quite complex.

NB Under Win32, the 640k limit no longer matters, the whole of the memory is treated the same. That is, there is no extended/expanded/upper memory, it is all conventional memory and is treated as such.
