I make a living writing MFC-based apps.
MFC is much easier to use than standard Win32 API. It was created for a very specific purpose, that of doing standard "windows application style" things. It wasn''t created to make games, or be super fast, just to make the app dev''s life easier.
Asking why MFC was created is like asking why DirectX was created. Can you make games without using DirectX? Sure. Is it easier to make games if you use DirectX? Absolutely. That''s the whole point. Does this mean you should write a notepad clone in DirectX? Heck no. That wasn''t what it was made for.
Learn the API''s that correspond with what you''re trying to accomplish. Ignore the rest, they aren''t for you.
