Program Icon

I have given my program an icon (with DevC++'s project options), and later on gave it a different one. But everytime I run the program, in the taskbar, it still has that old icon, even if in explorer it shows the new icon. If I simply rename the exe file, it will get the new icon anyway. So, I suspect that Windows has been so kind to cache that old icon somewhere and always display that instead of the actual icon inside the exe file that it should display... Is there some way to get rid of that cache, if it already is that?

Look in your windows directory for a file called 'ShellIconCache' and delete it. It will be rebuild when you reboot. This file is hidden so it's possible you need to tell Windows to show hidden files.

Does your icon file include a small version?

Hate to cut in on someone elses thread, but I'm curious how you do transparency for icons. I know there are programs to make icons with transparency, etc, but I'd rather use good old paintshop pro to do it. Anyone done this?

@avatar god: There's no support for icons in psp as far as I know. But there are a lot of freeware apps out there that do. I personaly use psp to draw the icon, and then copy-paste it into the vs6 c++ editor. Works for me..

Avatar God: I used a program called IrfanView for it, it asks you to choose the transparant color when you save the file as *.ico (you have to set an option for transparency first too)
