I just started playing recently, and I think it's a sport I want to get in to. I've played 3 times now, and I'm already entered into my first tournament. Quite frankly, I suck (getting a 5:1 death to kill ratio), but it's so much fun. I'm also hoping to enter a 24 hour scenario next feburary, so that should kick ass. So, are there any paintballers on these forums? How long have you been playing? Been in any kick-ass scenarios? Do tell...

Wow, you're into it more than me as of right now. I've only been out twice so far, and I'm going for a third time in two weeks. It costs me about $100 - $125 to play for the day, so it's not too bad, so long as I don't do it too often, since I need money elsewhere as well.

I wouldn't mind competing, but I'm not ready to sink any money into a decent gun. Maybe down the road. For right now I'm content to just play for fun.

That 24 hour thingy sounds cool. Post more on that. How does it work exactly?

I just love the feeling you get when you're playing. It's so cool to pop up and see a guy taking shots at you. You can see the paintballs coming your way, and you duck down just in time to hear them go splat! against your cover. That's awesome. You're like "whoa!! that was close!" And then of course it's great when you see your shots hit someone right in the face mask, or slip in through a tight crack in their cover and nail them. I swear, after every day of paintball, when I'm lying in bed trying to sleep I suddenly start hearing the chuffing of paintball guns and the whizzing and splattering of paintballs around me. It's like that feeling you get after riding a bunch of roller coasters and then when you lie down, it still feels like you're on a coaster.

yey for paintball!!

Good grief that's expensive! I usually end up spending about $50 for a day. I rent guns, but I get the medium-leve one, and tend not to go through just too many painballs. I try to avoid spray-and-pray, I always seem to get shot. I just run like mad and enjoy surrendering enemy players (if you don't do surrendering, then just imagine shooting them in the back from three feet, but less painful).

But man. Paintball is *so* much fun. Haven't done any scenarios yet, but I'd love to at some point. I think the army is setting one up for civvies in not too long, actually.

I usually end up on the good side of a 5:1 ratio, though (that's kill/death).

$100-$125?? US$??? Is that for like, 5 hours of play, or what? It costs me about $30-$40NZ (~$20US) to play for 2 hours.

Anyway, scenarios are like huge games (50 players per team), usually over quite large areas (such as a valley). There are certain missions that each team needs to accomplish throughout the 24 hours, such as capture Fort X, defend Trench Y, etc. Some scenarios can get quite complex from what I've seen... you might want to download this video which follows through one of the missions in a scenario.

Recently, just north of me, a "Day of Days" scenario was held, re-enacting the d-day missions of Easy Company. It was a comparibly small scenario... but still would've been a hell of a lot of fun.

It would be even more sickeningly awesome if you could do it at the real brecourt... . . .

Yea, me an my buds played from 9am to 3pm. It's $39 to rent a gun, mask, coverall and ammo canisters - as well as free air refills for the day. After that it's $80 for a case of 2000 paintballs. We walked away with half a case still at the end of the day, so we'll have some for next time.

And those scenarios definetly sound cool. I'm going to have to check out that video

Up around here in eastern pennsylvania, we have a D-Day paintball re-enactment every year in mid-summer. There are usually a couple thousand people though.. cheating is rampant and everybody is cranky :P

Paintball is absolutely awesome. I only went once a few years ago with a company I used to work for and I loved it. I'd imagine it's not nearly as fun to play with people you don't know so I don't want to go with only two or three people. Unfortunately getting all of my friends together to play isn't exactly easy... This is something I'd absolutely love to do, though.

I didn't know people do scenarios. Something like that just sounds freakin' awesome. I would love to do it at some point. Where do you find these groups?

I'v only gone once but I really liked it, I just wish it were a tad cheaper.

I wouldn't mind buying a gun and the equipment if paintballs weren't very much, but they're so expensive!

Okay, paintball sounds soooo cool. It's like ET, but physical. I didn't know about the extensive scenarios before, but based on what you guys are saying, As Soon As I Become Rich (TM), I'll definitely try paintball out. Right now, $100 or even $20 is a little out of my league...

I love paintball and I've got a crazy ass story to tell.

firstly though, I am in ROTC and we use tippmann 98 paintball guns out on field training exercises to simulate some real life scenarios, instead of actually killing each other! we spend the night out in the woods with all of our (military supplied) gear.

Anyway, I was playing paintball *using an old junk car in the woods*. It was so much fun that we actually had it. People would ride in the car around a circular trail with people shooting out the windows as if they were the m60 gunner of a helicopter (no glass, obviously, but it did have a windshield). that alone was FUN, seriously majorly fun. The rest of the people would just stay in the woods waiting to ambush the car...and it actually did end up being fair.

Although, one time, my friend was driving without his mask on,and his uncle shot him right in the eye while was driving (stupid us for not making our driver wear a mask). I was in the car, along with another friend (both of us armed with guns!) we were going 35mph and crashed right into a tree because the driver couldn't see.

I freaking loved it, lol. And earlier in the day I got stung in the eye while playing :)

yeah

EDIT:
another time (swear to god all of this happened) we all caught our friend pooping in the woods while playing a game...we had two teams, but we were all laughing our ass off at this kid who was pooping when he should have been playing, so naturally EVERYBODY started shooting at him, even his team members...damn, the good old days

Paintball kicks ass.

I started when I was younger(12ish, 13), and I've actually only gone about 7 times, but I'm pretty good.

I like it because it's one of the few sports I have a natural finesse for. I suck at football and all of those, but I'm really good at paintball. Last time I played I had an 9:1 death to kill ratio.

Unfortunatly, I haven't played in a while, my gun broke, and I'm out of a job. The fact that I just moved and don't know too many people doesn't help.

But it's definitely I'm hoping to get into much more.

I had a beretta airsoft gun and the damn thing didn't shoot worth crap...it seriously only had a range of like 20 feet.

Are the rifles better/more powerful?

EDIT:
well, after reading that site, the answer is yes I guess.

I'm still trying to figure out how the popular guns work...like, are they electric or pump action or co2 or WHAT?

EDIT1:well, I've got all of my questions answered from that site, and it does look pretty sweet.

CO2 is my guess... that's what more paintball markers run on anyway. Either that or Nitrogen gas.

The good guns with reasonable range are apparently gas or 'automatic electric'.

I think I'd like to spend the money and get a gas powered gun :)
