I would like to know of personal experiences or opinions about R.I.T. As of right now, this might be my primary choice for a university. I would appreciate knowing anything you might have to share about it. Thank you!

DONT LIVE IN THE DORMS!

Sorry for the shouting. Seriously, you will have to live in a room that's likely smaller than the one you lived in at home, except that you will have to share it with one other person (at random if you don't have a friend also going) and possibly more if there is a living space shortage.

For the same money you pay for board you can have a nice apt in Henrietta. (which is the town that R.I.T is located in) Check out the crittenden way places, I got an apt there for like 600 a month (rent, not including utils). It's seriously, like 2 miles away. Then if you get a reasonable parking space you won't have to walk 1/4 mile in the snow every day.

PS: Hope your tolerance for cloudy weather is high.

That's, erm, pretty much the way it is in every dorm across the country. Unless something is radically different at R.I.T., you make the rooms sound normal.

Personally, I think everyone should live in a dorm for at least 1 year, just to get the full college experience.

I don't have much experience with other dorms. However, the other ones I've briefly walked into seemed a lot bigger.

Well I've live near Rochester, so I might not have to stay in the dorms anyways. What I was truly interested in was how decent the school is.

Would I have a better chance of finding jobs with a degree from RIT or a degree from Buffalo State, or some mid-grade SUNY school?

Which would be the better choice, as far as job outlook, salary, etc... computer science, or software engineering? I have heard that the latter is the better choice for career outlook. True?

Any opinions of RIT itself? It will run me $30,000 per year, so I would like to know if there is a good reason for that. Is it worth the cost?

Thank you.

I have one friend still studying there, who apparently enjoys it.

My other friend simply could not take the near-Arctic weather. Underground tunnels? 'Nuff said, unless you like trudging through horribly cold weather all of the time.

edit: Just noticed you live near Rochester, so you're probably an Eskimo anyway.

Let me tell you why it is MY first choice for college:

1) Big school. That means I dont have to hang out with geeks all the time.
2) Excellent Computer Science program that is up to date
3) Good sports. Suprisingly
4) Hot girls because of the film industry (KODAK)
5) Small town feel. Not too big a city, and in a nice area.

Yeah. So maybe that will help you out.

If you mean Rochester Institute of Technology, one word of advice:

It was a TERRIBLE waste of money. The professors are all pretentious and the programs aren't accredited either (or weren't, when I went there).

To this very day, I still regret going there, rather than going to a state school instead (I finished my degree at a state school, and learned about 100x more useful real-world stuff there than at RIT, which exists only to suck money out of rich kids.)
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My signature is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My signature, without me, is useless. Without my signature, I am useless.

Darn, it's statements like this that completely make me question everything I had previously thought. I can't tell yet if that is a good thing, or a bad thing. ;)

More thoughts? That last one worries me.

Dude, if one bad review of a school is able to turn you off the school, it shouldn't be your first choice. You don't like it enough for it to be your school of choice.

Not everyone is going to love everything. Look at cars. There is a seat for every ass. There is a school for every mind. You have to decide what YOU like.

Well, other than the dorms/living issues I think it's a decent place. I've actually heard of kids getting job offers without even applying for them. Then again that was in the .com days when I was there.

I was in the IT program, the teachers were okay. I have heard some horror stories about the CS ones though. But then again, who hasn't heard horror stories about CS teachers? =D

I left the school because they used my tuition money to build a fucking 18-hole golf course, to be used only by the President of the university. Not a single tangible benefit to the students was ever offered, and it was just disgusting.

And that they became a whore for the Pepsi corporation, signing a contract that required the on-campus convenience store to remove all non-pepsi products from the refridgerators (ie: no milk, etc).

...

What??

That's so retarded. I mean when I left they were having living space and parking issues. I can't imagine they've solved all that by now...Oh yeah and I think some of the teachers were none too happy about their salaries...Oh yeah and I think a little bit of improved sanitation would have helped too.

And the Pepsi thing...Wow, we used to call the corner store the corner whore...now theres a real reason.
