Hi, I have to do a 3D chess. I would like to program it in C++ because I don't know java. What is the avantage and the disavantage of C++ for this game? I would like to use openGL for the GUI is it the best? If you know any good web site for the ai chess because I am lost let me know. Thanks Gazzall50

The advantage of C++ is you know it. Disadvantage? Maybe you don't know it well enough? Who knows?

The "best" is the one that gets the job done. If you are comfortable with OpenGL, you should be able to whatever you want.

Chess AI is a pretty big subject. Just do a search. At the minimum, you could get by with a min-max tree with alpha-beta pruning and then just have a very basic evaluator that assigned scores to the pieces on the board. That will not be a very "smart" player, but it will get you started. Once everything is working, you can always go back and tweak your evaluator. Good luck.

I can give you the source code of my 3D chess game written in C++ using Direct3D - It has network & database stuff in it as a bonus, scene management & picking... Just no IA yet. If you want it, drop me a mail at spk at darkside-online dot com.

Direct3D has build-in controls, so that would be fast, but if you already know C++ and OpenGL, then it should be faster just coding it from scratch, but that's just my opinion.
A relevant OpenGL GUI link.
To make good chess AI you should contact Deep Blue :D

i dont know how to load models in opengl, but once you work that out, it will be simple.

Direct3d comes with its own model loader, but u hae to use .x files.

Which u can convert to.

But anyway its pretty easy to make chess pieces in a 3d modeler such as anim8or, u might want to try a few of their simple tutorials...
