Our medieval project is in need of a programmer who knows assembly language exceptionally well, the programmer would have to dissemble "game.exe" and "lfds binary" , I have been told this could take a good half of a year to do. However, we need to do this so we can make our own HUD and other Features as we do not have source code. I was also tipped that IDA Pro can help disassemble it. If you think you are up for the job reply or email me engageproductions@hotmail.com Our website http://www.fofmod.com Position: Voluntary

Disassemble... what ? Your post does not make any sense. In addition, disassembling a commercial game is most likely illegal.

It has already been done on another mod and EA are ok with the Reverse Engineering, they won't however supply us Soure Code so we have to do exe engineering.

Sorry if it does not make sence but im just posting what i was told we needed.

So basically we need someone who can reverse engineer if i am correct.

I don't know where you got that statement from, because right in the EULA for every game you have a clause against reverse engineering.. which they wouldn't have if they didn't care.

EA most definately cares about reverse engineering and IP theft.

Forget it.

You might meet a hot and fiery demise in court.

To reverse engine a binary program is extreamly hard and the fact that it has been done just tell me that someone is extremely crazy. The though of creating a game mod by reverse engineering a executable is EXTREMELY stupid. It would take less time to create the game from sratch unless there is minimal change that is needed.
There is a reason why there aren't commercial games made by assembler. Good luck guys and make sure to post back if you get it of the ground. And if you get it out without getting sued for all your worth by EA I will praise you guys as my god.

Respect

We still need someone who would be willing to work with us, as you say its illigal to do so however, like i have said another mod has done so and posted their Reverse Engineering on "http://www.planetcnc.com" which EA review everyday, if they were so much bothered they would have taken action againsts the other mod team "http://www.renalert.com" by now.

Someone with the experience willing to help i can get some more information on what exactly you need when you accept the proposal.

the mod you're talking about, that didn't get sued, probably got permission from EA.

Reverse engineering is not strictly forbidden, at least not within the european union.
You can disassemble an application if it's necessary to develop a compatible product, i.e. to determine file formats and network protocols, as long as your product isn't directly competing with the original one (together with half a dozen other expections).
I doubt that it's possible give away this right in a licences agreement, but my book doesn't explicitly say anything about it.

I just wanted to say that the topic itself shouldn't be banned.

all I was saying, really, was that he should get permission from EA , before making the mod(and also, surely there's easier ways to make it than to disassemble the program modify it in assembly, I recommend looking into easier ways), and I agree the topic shouldn't be banned, I was just pointing out that his topic is possibly against the forum rules.

I seriously doubt that they'll get a permission to do so.
The rights to modifying a foreign executable are very limited (only convers bug fixes and can be given away in license agreements).

However, it might be legal patch a running instance of a program (my book seems to think that loading a program to RAM doesn't count as making a copy, so maybe you have some freedom to modify it?).

After taking a look at the game you said had dissasembled a game I was just wondering where you found the information that they dissassembled the game. I could only find that they had mod in the usual maner by changing the actual data. But I can be wrong. I still believe a assembler pro is not what you want. You want someone to figure out the system of your game.

"i have been told i need someone who knows "The New ASM"?"

Sounds like someone was just jerking your chain. Probably someone just being an arse in irc or a message board, wherever you asked the question at.
