I've been working on a small project, and I'll need to incorporate a database of some sort to hold information. I've been leaning towards using mySQL for my databasing needs, but I would have to install it seperately from the program. That isn't a problem because I already have it installed for other projects, but I'd like to package the software for friends and family, but I don't want to require them to install mySQL with the software. I'd like it to install and go. Is there another third-party product I could use (and someone recommends), or should I stick with designing my own database? Thanks

Depending on the application, you could look at SQLite, a very small and lightweight database in a file. It's usable from within your application and is farily easy to get up and running. If you need a C++ wrapper, there's a couple on CodeProject that are useful. Overall, it's not the fastest but it's not exactly slow and can be useful in circumstances such as yours.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it. I'm not worried about speed, because this isn't a performance oriented application. I would like to keep the overhead to a minimum.
