Which editor do you use? I'm currently hooked on DreamWeaver. It works great with PHP and remote FTP editing.

Dreamweaver MX, and SciTE.

[edit: I do almost everything with Dreamweaver in code mode. The visual layout option is nice when you have a lot of pages to create quick, but for clean code there's nothing like doing it yourself.]

HTML-Kit. Pretty nice allround. Built-in FTP too. I have only three gripes about it:

1) It doesn't highlight multi-line strings properly in PHP/JS code.
2) You can't add/edit new code highlighting definitions (i'd really like a smarty template highligher that picks up the smarty commands as well).
3) FTP doesn't have mass-download or recursive delete.

Heh, just kidding. Dreamweaver. Being 1337 is nice and all, but not when it's counter-productive.

Using Vim is not being 1337, nor is it being counter-productive. I develop Rails applications, and I find that Vim is my favorite and most productive editor to write Ruby code and ERb code (Ruby + HTML)

Tried SCiTE tried coffeecup tried crimson, they were all nice, but none compared to Dreamweaver MX especailly for php.

for php i use phpExpert Editor simple cos it can render php (without needing you to run appache or something), but its still just a glorified text editor. For just plain old HTML i use ultra-edit or notepad. I tried frontpage and dreamweaver a bit but I like writing the code more than what comes out so I always go back to hand editing it because its fun :D

Whatever text editor is closest to hand.
Syntax highlighting is a bonus
Using Topstyle Pro atm
Good stuff :]
Couldn't ever use a wysiwygcrapo.. eww. Then again my sites are code lol. Nicely managed interlinking php systems (whoop look @ my mess). But comon, to be honest I'd much rather do
Hmm I guess what I want really is a machine to interpret my brainwaves so I can save on the typing.

I must get working on that.. I think I'll practise on the dog...

If you switch DreamWeaver to code only view, it is just very powerfull editor with auto complete and syntax highlighting, and FTP support.

Well I could... There's no real point for me to do that though. That was my point entirely: To me it makes no difference so long as I have me highlighting (& yes I heard you dreamweaver does have highlighting) but really stuff the crowds why does it really matter what you use?

You mentioned FTP support, that was really my main point :)

It's a bit expensive just so you can have FTP support.

Nope, there's no real reason for you to switch to Dreamweaver. Other then the fact that it will let you manage your website directly while giving you complete control over the code with highlighting and remote editing therefore speeding up your coding, editing and testing goodness [wink]. But it's completely up to you. You can edit the pages in Topstyle Pro and then upload via Filezilla, or have the same capabilities in DreamWeaver with an addition of auto-upload-on-save features with a powerful FTP folder view .

Not kidding, I use Notepad only. That is, Programmers Notepad (for Syntax Highlighting).
