Ok guys. Today I decided I was going to come home and start working on a new game. Im always browsing gdnet and seeing people making all these funky games, and I just want to make one too. Somthing that people would respect and enjoy. I came home, and started browsing through some of my books looking for some inspiration, I found none. So I started searching the web, looking for demos, random stuff that might insprire me. Nothing. So i decided to ask the good old people on gdnet, can i borrow some inspiration please? Maybe somone has some funky stuff to show me, if you manage to inspire me you get a cookie, and maybe a mention on asheh.com :P
EMPIRE: Wargame of the Century!

Created by the guy behind the "D" programming language.
I can't decide if i respect him for this 80's game, or disrespect him for his pet language. Whatever.
Best strategy game ever.
OMFG!@$ He's rewrote empire in D, with graphics and it runs on modern machines!
hmmm, I wonder if I can get over the whole "it's written in D" part.
edit: nah, it's still pretty crappy.

Granted, I don't actually make many games in my spare time (I get my fill of work at work), but I do think up wacky game concepts. Here's what I do: look around you. What do you see? A pillow on your bed? What kind of game could you make about a pillow? I know... crazy - pillows? The point is it will open up your mind to new ideas. _Anything_ can become a game.
So make a spaceship game similar to the one you remember. I always like to think of my old favourite classics. They seem to get me pumped. Commander Keen/Dangerous Dave, Civilization, The Incredible Machine, One Must Fall, etc.
Oh, and don't stop making the project until it is finished. It's not a good sign when you have 10 unfinished projects (... and I'm one to talk [wink]).
