I am looking for either a free c++ profiler or atleast one with a free trial. What are my options. thanks

I've been using DevPartner also and it's been invaluable in optimizing a demo I recently wrote. It's really good for giving both an overall summary of your hotspots, and then going in to see which lines are causing the trouble.

The only problem is that there aren't too many features for configuring the data collection (I wanted to either say "start the profile after m seconds, and run for n seconds" or write start/stop tags in my code to control the profiling, but I couldn't figure out if either of those were possible). Also I couldn't get the window to draw in my GL program... but all in all, definitely worth looking at.

I think the AMD profiler is free. Probably works on Intel too.

OpenWatcom comes with a pretty descent profiler. It's all free as part of the OpenWatcom development suite, which I think is great and getting better with each new release.

Intel's VTune is supposed to be a hell of a good profiler though. I believe you can get a trial version from the intel developers website.
