$999 usd The iBook g4 is about $1000, cool. I have never been a huge fan of apple, but neither have I been a fan of oversized, heavy laptops either. I would primarily use it for application development, school work, and non-gaming stuff. Hell, who wants to try to play an FPS on a 12inch anyways... The biggest selling point for me is the 6 hour battery. I only get 3 on my hp. Now, I have some concerns... am I going to be able to find free software for it like I have for windows? Is there a port of open office?(just checked, yes there is). Is there a cheap paint program? Anybody else thinking of making "the switch?"

Let us know what your impressions are. If I had the $$$ I'd pick up an Apple - just to check them out.

Well, I haven't boughten one yet. I need to find someone to unload my HP on. But you seem to get alot of bang for your buck. From what I gather, this is a prety good deal for a mac.

I'd be willing to let go of my HP for $700. It gets about 3 hours of battery life, has a 60 gig hard drive, 400 some megs of ram, integrated wireless, DVD/CDRW, 64 meg ati card...

boughten, eh?

anyway, IFF i where to buy an apple, it would only be a powerbook g4. I doubt they will ever make a g5, the heatsinks necessary for the thing are huge.

Anyway...
Looks pretty neat; you should be able to find the software you need. I'd recommend Connectix Virtual PC - I hear it's very good on Mac. I have the Windows version, and it works a treat! That should help any quick Windows-only tasks.

I have, and it's definitly worth it! It almost never crashes, and quite a few free programs run on it(basically, any open source program made for linux or another unix can run on it, with a few exceptions), also there are a few popular games that work on it, such as UT2k3, UT2k4, World of Warcraft, Warcraft III, WarCraftIII: Frozen Throne, StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War. And one final thing: my favorite C++ IDE has to be Xcode, which only works on Mac.

I work with both PCs and Macs, both have advantages and disadvantages. Macs I have found to be a little bit more stable, have a nicer interface, and more "realistic colors" (not sure how to discribe it but Colors just look better on a Mac V.S PC, that's the reason why Web Developers, and video editors use them more than PCs) than a PC.

Obvoiusly, the Macs suffer from lack of software, and that you can't just go down to Best Buy and WallMart to buy accessories for it (such as a new video card).

If it was me - and I had the cash. I would get one. I always like Macs and they always seemed to be more on the cutting edge.

...and more "realistic colors"...

I'd heard that too, but when working on a Mac at a video editing expo (G5 with one of those big flat glass-bordered panels) I found the interface to be terribly drab and that my cheapo 17" CRT, with a little gamma tweaking, yields much better colour. Maybe I was just working on a crap monitor, I don't know how good they are. It was very big, that's all I can remember...

Do you happen to have any concept of where Bungie came from? :)

You should consider one of the smaller Sony Vaios. Those are pretty slick too.

Holy shit... that was unexpected. I stand corrected.
