I know this has probably been said a billion times, but it needs to be brought up again. Please can we have seperate lists for the different API''s. At the least, split OpenGL and DX from each other. I use DirectX because it is truly the superior API, and thus couldn''t care less about OpenGL, Java, etc. anyway... just wishing.

You know you''re gonna get flamed for bashing OpenGL don''t you?

I don''t personally care, they both have their good traits .

i second that, like now i only look at posts that have an indication that they''re using gl in the title.

though sometimes i accidently click on a d3d one and get a d3d question u know the type eg "how do i turn my computer on"

If you''re asking for this API forum to be divided into individual forums for each major API, the answer is no. The decision was made to keep this a single forum to keep the number of existing forums down.

Yeh, I think Glide needs it''s own forum, hahaha. JK

I''d say you don''t know what you''re talking about. Both APIs have there qualities, but I wouldn''t say one was better than the other.

I for one have used both DirectX and OpenGL. Personally I like OpenGL better, because I find it easier to use, but I wouldn''t go as far as to saying that DirectX sucks. I just don''t like all the setup that''s involved with DirectX, but I''m sure if I made a few wrappers to take care of the overhead, I''d like it as much as OpenGL, but not more.

That sure isn''t the way to get your way.

Even if you are only familiar with one API, you can often find that you can answer questions about the other one quite efficiently. I know only the smallest amount of OpenGL, I know more D3D and DirectX in general, but I find that these APIs do have a lot in common, after all, they are performing the exact same function, so I can answer some OpenGL questions which come up.

My name is Tim because it is truly the superior name, and thus couldn''t care less about John, Billy, etc.

Some people never get it ;-)

Maybe he meant DirectX (as he said) and not Direct3D?
Well, IF it''s going to be split I''d say one forum OpenGL, Direct3D, Glide, etc. and the other the rest of DirectX (if we''d include DirectDraw there would be an issue)

Anyway, that would make the most sense to me.
OR make it 3 forums: 2D (DDraw, Allegro, GDI, ...), 3D (Direct3D, OpenGL, Glide, etc.) and other APIs (rest of DirectX, OpenAL,[IIRC] OpenNL[IIRC], WinSock/BSD Sockets, etc.) - essentially a Networking, Audio and Input API forum.

1)OpenGL (i don''t wanna see this anymore:what use "glxxx function" or "how to opengl full screen")
2)DirectX (all d3d, ddraw, dsound, and more)
3)Another Enginers (who use glide today??)

Of course, DX is more popular ;-)

I don''t see a thread with opengl and directx questions, without start a millenium-war "dx vs opengl".

pd :dx and opengl is a good enginer.

Myopic Rhino has said, again and again, that he is working on re-organizing the forums to ensure things fit together smoothly. Hold your wad until then, eng3d (I don''t want to know what you were doing when posting that last one).

Why is everbody starting to act like a script kiddie as soone somebody says something about opengl/directx? Grow up. If you like opengl use it, if you like dx use it but don´t flame everybode else that happens to like the other api. Say that I use dx, does that make your coding better/worse/unchanged?

People can say what they like, unless they don''t happen to reside in a country implementing a freedom of speech act.

So, if someone claims that:
"Direct3D is better than OpenGL" (god forbid)

Someone has equal right to tell them:
"Go forth and reproduce with yourself"

In less words maybe, but you get the idea.
