Does anyone have any info on release dates for the first round of nForce4 boards (in particular, those with PCIe)? Or, for that matter, any recommendations? I've decided it's about time I built a new machine, and given that the nForce4 chips should be out fairly soon I figured I might as well start with one. But I'm not sure if they'll actually make it on boards to market before the end of the year or not... In particular I'm looking at the Gigabyte K8NXP-9. I've seen that Gigabyte have done some poor work in the past, but the stuff on Anandtech seems to suggest they've pulled themselves together a bit more. Figured I'd grab one of those, a 64-bit Athlon, and an NV40-based card for starters. I guess I'll also need to find out how to select a power supply.

Well, not to answer your question specifically, but I see you mentioned power supplies. You may want to check this out:
Mmm, modular

It's a modular power supply. PC Gamer highly recommends it, and it apparently works with all the latest stuff. I'll definitely get one for my next PC.

As for Gigabyte's motherboards, I've been running the 7VTXH+ for about 2 years and have had no problems, and I do like their dual bios deal, so it makes it hard to permanently toast your bios if you mess something up.

Don't have experience with the nForce though. I always found more performance with just a regular video card an mother board, but I never seem to be in the market for a new motherboard when a new set of nForce boards are released. I've heard good things about them though.

That's a gorgeous power supply.

IIRC, the nForce 4 and ultra (not SLI) were released to the manufacturers on October 19th. It is just a matter of time (a week or two??) before they start rolling them into retailers. I think I am going to wait for an SLI myself, but they all are pretty good.

It sucks that they don't come with Soundstorm 2. Soundstorm is one of the things which makes me think my Abit NF7-S is my best motherboard yet.

I'm not really interested in the SLI stuff, to be honest - I want SM3.0 support more than I want high performance, and to get that with SLI I'd have to buy two high-end cards - which would put me further out of pocket than I would like to be.

Those power supplies look cool, but I don't get what they mean by 'modular.' The cabling system looks funky, is that what it refers to?

I guess the boards should be out in the next couple of weeks, then. Yay.

Yeah, they give you the ability to only use the cables you need, instead of standard power supplies that force you to use all the cables, and if you're anything like me, you have about two or three extra cables needlessly dangling around your case.
