Framework Timer/Multiprocessor Question

I noticed that when I move my game to a multiprocessor machine with otherwise identical specs, the framework timer that comes with the SDK reports markedly less frame rates. Oddly enough, though, the game still seems very smooth (which it shouldn't, given its low reported frame rates). The framework SDK uses the QueryPerformanceCounter() method to run its timer. Is it possible that the numbers it is reporting could be in error on multiprocessor machines?

"On a multiprocessor machine, it should not matter which processor is called. However, you can get different results on different processors due to bugs in the basic input/output system (BIOS) or the hardware abstraction layer (HAL). To specify processor affinity for a thread, use the SetThreadAffinityMask function."

Yeah, I did find this little blurb. Not very helpful though...

Btw, why do you really want to use the PerformanceCounter for measuring frame rates... why not try a common high resolution multimedia counter and see what it says...

Because it's already an integrated part of the timer in the DirectX SDK.
