Hello, I am trying to install DirectX 9.0c (October 2004 Update) and it says it installed successfully. When I run dxdiag it still says I have 9.0b. When I try to run program with 9.0c libs it fails to initialize D3D. I tried to remove and then reinstall everything, but that didn't help. I redownloaded the SDK, didn't help. I am getting quit hopeless... ;( Please help, Thank you in advance, Ilya

You have to install both the SDK and the DX Runtime. I don't think the SDK installs the Runtime by default. You should be able to find the runtime install program in your SDK directory.

I do have it installed but it still doesn't work. :(
BTW, Full SDK does install Run-Time.
Thanks for help,

If dxdiag still shows 9.0b, then it would appear that it didn't install the 9.0c runtime.

You might try searching the MSDN knowledge base and see if they have any suggestions.

I had the same problem when I first installed DX9.0c on my machine. I think what I eventually did was to unistall ALL DirectX versions that were in Add/Remove Programs (it was only DX9.0b) and then I deleted the C:\DXSDK folder and the C:\DirectX folder (or wherever your DirectX SDK is located). At first I was reluctant to doing this, as I thought it may mess up the registry, but I thought that MS's install for DirectX9.0c would (maybe) fix some or most of the DirectX registry errors if I caused any by blindly deleting the 2 folders.

After I deleted the 2 folders, DX was NOT in my control panel, and I could NOT run any recent DX programs. At this point I downloaded the 9.0c version and everything went fine. All the options were installed in VS.NET as well (if you're using it), and I had no problems after that.

I'm using WinXP Pro - not sure if that matters.

I know you mentioned that you tried removing everything, but did you get you're machine to the point were the DirectX icon did not appear in the control panel?
