So the artists are tired of having to use only one PC to scan their stuff. They would rather put what they want scanned into the scanner and sit at their computer and run the scan software there. The guy whos computer is hooked up to the scanner is pretty tired of having his computer commandeered every 30 minutes or so. Can anyone recommend a good scanner that either networkable through software or hardware?

Pretty much any networkable all-in-one printer will do the job well (which is almost every printer). I recommend hp's line. If the quality of the art is very important, I'd go with Epson. Under no circumstances would I recommend Lexmark, though.

Cool. I didnt even think of that. We have a couple of extra all in one printers laying about.
