I just finished writing my first video game ever! Its not much but it is a step in the right direction. It is a DOS game that just makes you guess the correct number. But it is the best thing so far, after i finished it I was so happy, and now i want to make more programs! Well just thought id post this, people might not care but i sure do.

i finished it

That''s a very important phrase. Finishing a project is the most difficult part. It''s not easy to polish up something you''ve been working on for a long time when you have the urge to start another something new.

Although this was a very simple game, remember that you finished it , and do the same for every game, especially when they start to grow in complexity.

I will finish all of my projects, i hope, i want to be a professional game programmer so bad, and i would do anything to be one, so i know it will look good on my application when i say i actually finished my projects. I may try a text adventure game, but it will be a while before i am able to write windows programs, dos is fine for me right now.

That''s cool... like you said, the fact that it''s small doesn''t matter, just that you finished the program.

The simplest game I ever saw was three lines of code long, called Feathers or Lead. I guess it was based on a book by Roger Zelazany but I never read it. All it did was ask you the question, "Feathers or lead?" with two possible outputs:

Feathers or lead ? feathers
Nope, lead.

Feathers or lead ? lead
Nope, feathers.

Hehehe... I don''t know why I find that so funny, but I had a good laugh over that program.

LOL quantum and ironblayde, I made another program, it does grade averages, my mother is a teacher and i thought i''d make a program to help her out, it''s not a game, but im programming anything right now, it took about an hour to write both programs, I was wondering if making a score table or whatever on the number game, along with a set amount of lives you have at the beginning and if you dont guess in that many lives you have to start over, i was wondering if i should make one or if it would be a waste of time

It''s never a waste of time if you are learning new concepts, techniques, etc. And even those proposed ideas which seem simple seldom are and often require us to think harder than we though we would have to. Thinking should be embraced, not avoided.

Wise words in an otherwise unwise world.

(It will take everything in my being not to edit that unwieldy sentence at a later date.)

I''ve built a dozen working VB utilities; can I be proud of those? They work, and they''re useful!
