Good day to everyone here. I am planning and designing a 3D Ninja-MMORPG which is full of action. I need your feedback, and this is what i have come up with. Ninja-style MMORPG Design Document A guide to the 3D Action! Why create this MMORPG? Aren’t there enough ideas and crap? Simple. Current MMORPGs have very restricted movements and things you can do in the game. But this is different. You have no restrictions on your moments, you can hand on a tree, walk on a cliff etc. Because this is a ninja game, it is totally action and skills. No more of clicking and waiting! The fate of your ninja lies in your hands. Battle may take place anywhere and you always have to be on your guard. Participate in player-give or NPC(Non-Playing-Characters) given missions and work your way up in ranks, fame, reputation and skills! Players will start in villages they choose, and they put their life forth to protect it from whatever dangers it may face. Battle System Enough said, here is how the battle system works. Before playing the game, the player must have a complete idea of how the battle system is going to work, if not, he will only risk his life in this dangerous world. Controls -> Up, Down, Left, Right, Jump, Left Hand, Right Hand, Left Leg, Right Leg Etc... There will be different keys assigned to the above movements. Power System -> Without power, how are players going to fight? Players must first build up their power system in their bodies. If they are not able to control and use their powers properly, they will not be excellent ninjas. Players must know their limit and know how much power and what type of power they are suppose to use for different kinds of Techniques. -> Types of Power : Basically, Powers are made up of different elements, and the elements are Fire, Water, Earth, Lightning, Sound, Light and Darkness. Techniques -> Now to the Techniques. At any period of time, there will be a human figure on the bottom of their screens, and they are suppose to press different numbers on the keypad of the keyboard to release different type and amount of powers they want to use for a technique. Take a look at this diagram here : http://www.2and2.net/Uploads/Images/powerexplanation.gif Basically, the figure will look like that. 1 - The Main Point that will control the amount of power. The player will press the 1 key and the gauge will move left and right, to the left is the minimum and the right the maximum power, different techniques will require different amount of power. 2 – Fire Point 3 – Water Point 4 – Earth Point 5 – Lightning Point 6 – Sound Point 7 – Light Point 8 – Darkness Point 9 – The brain must not be injured or harmed in any way, if the opponent uses the mind controlling technique, the player will not be able to use his powers. The player may press different points at the same time, but he has to be very careful and alert. After releasing the correct points, pressing the movement buttons, for example, the left and right hand together, and perform the correct technique. If nothing happens, it means that he hasn’t “learnt” the technique, or he has got the points wrong. Techniques can be learnt from players and NPC. Players will be able to make their own techniques at a very advanced stage of the game. Missions and Ranks Players will be able to perform all sorts of missions given to them by NPC or players. By completing these missions, they will gain rank points and rewards such as money. When they have a certain number of points, they will be able to undergo examinations to gain better ranks. Ranks : Rookie -> 0 Points ( beginning rank ) Pin-Jun-Nin (Average Ninja) -> 1500 Points Gao-Ji-Nin (Advanced Ninja) -> 4000 Points Kan-Shou-Nin (Examiner Ninja) -> 10,000 Points More to be added… Please take note that the rank names has nothing to with Japanese. PK (Player Killing) System Players will be able to attack anyone at any period of time, yes, this is how the game of ninja works. Be on guard anytime, and if you die, you will lose not only items, but money too. If enemies have Strip-Skill Techniques, they may just strip off any of your techniques or weaken you, so be prepared! Character Creation Players will be able to customize the looks of their characters and a set of basic clothing. Age -> Players can enter their age ranging from 8-12. They will get older as they play the game more. Hair style -> Players will be able to drag the lines of the hair and shape it to any shape, there is no restriction on the hairstyle. Body Size -> Again, the players will be able to stretch and pull to what size they like. Eyes -> A few eye types will be available to choose from. Nose -> A few nose types will be available to choose from. Mouth -> A few mouth types will be available to choose from. Techniques There are many types of techniques and they serve different purpose ( of course! ) As you already know, there are 7 elements in total. And making use of these 7 elements, 4 Main categories are formed. First -> Close-Combat Second -> Mid-Range Third -> Long-Range Fourth -> Healing There are many techniques under each category and they use different elements and powers. When learning a technique from a NPC, a manual will be given to tell you which points to hold and the amount of power needed, the rest is up to the player. Every player will have a technique list, under the list, they will show what techniques they know, they must know the technique in other to perform it. To know a technique, NPC will demonstrate, player-mentor will also demonstrate the skill for you to know. When learning from a NPC, the points and powers you need to know is guaranteed, when learning from a player, he has to tell you everything. Now, let me give you an example of how this works incase you are totally confused. Player A wishes to perform the technique “Lightning Punch” on a dummy. This technique is Close-Combat, so he has to be in the close-combat range of the dummy. Then, the lightning point is 5, the power controlling points is 1. Reading the manual, the manual states : “Hold down the lightning point when in range, fix your power rate near the maximum, press the use technique button, and quickly press either your left or right hand, or both for the best of damage.” I forgot to mention the use technique key. After hitting the correct points and power, you hit the technique key, then the movements ;). Now, was that simple? Try it.. try holding down 5, press 1 and 1 again to fix the power, imagine any key as the use technique key, and press left and right together! ( .. .. … Can you imagine ? =) ) I will continue adding more, and soon, i will be adding the history and story of the world the game is set in. Feedback please ;).. thank you
...are you serious?

won't it be challenging? :) it's gona be fun ;).. to see how ppl screw up :D
They get to flip out and kill people, right?
(obligatory ultimatepower.com reference, sorry)
Even if he was serious, I think bandwidth would be such an issue that his business model fails.

Bandwith concerns aside...

I love PK. I'm the Charles Manson of PK'ing. But even this is too much for me. There has to be some safety somewhere. Either with "dojo's" or possibly Naruto-like "hidden villages" (Which would be truely AWESOME). This would take some serious level and economy crafting.

If you haven't watched any of the Naruto anime, head over to narutochaos.com and watch the first 10 or so, warning - it's addictive. If you make it to ep 30 (the exam episodes) there is no going back.

Oh boy, another mmorpg. My problem isn't that it's an mmorpg idea, it's just that... well, I'm just going to take a stab in the dark and say that you were inspired by Naruto. Now, the problem with Naruto (and your idea, in case you don't watch Naruto) is that it's about ninjas. Don't get me wrong, ninjas are freaking cool. And a game about ninjas would automatically have some potential for super coolness IMO. However, ninjas should be used in moderation.

That is, it's cool when you are a ninja and you are stealthily infiltrating a castle and eliminating some target. But it isn't really cool when you and everybody except the npc's are all ninjas. When there are that many, what's the point? Nobody is special.

I kind-of agree. I think an mmorpg does best when players have a wide variety of vocations to choose from. I think your idea would make a cool single-player game though.
yea.. maybe i should include other stuffs like samurai and "hidden villages" .. guards will be around the whole village, so , it makes it harder to kill someone in a village, does it sound fair enough?

or maybe everyone doesn't start as a ninja?
.. since if everyone is a ninja, it won't be fun. Should i include other classes like magician? samurai? or dark knight etc? And different classes get different kinds of missions, maybe the samurai has to protect blah blah blah from assassins for a certain amt of time and ninjas will receive "urgent missions" and they can choose to kill the target that the samurai is protecting . something like that.. any suggestions?
