I'm currently in the process of writing a report about some work i've been doing. Onve of the things i have to include is stuff i've used throughout my work. By stuff, i mean things such as: - Programming languages such as C/C++. - Scripting languages such as &#106avascript. - Markup languages such as HTML. - Diagrams such as data flow, UML and ER diagrams. - Products such as SQL Server, Visual Studio and Source Safe. What kind of terms would you use to broadly group these sorts of things? My first thought was to put everything under Technologies. However, i feel uncomfortable putting things such as programming languages under this heading. What sorts of things do you believe fall under a Technologies heading? Is the term broad enough to include any of the things listed above? Does a term exist that encompasses all of these things, or do they need to be grouped under smaller more meaningful headings?

Would it sound pedantic to refer to things you have used (languages etc) as Resources and things you have processed (diagrams etc) as Sources?

The word Technologies is a bit sweeping and could include hardware (video tapes etc) as well.

Do you have to put everything in one category? How about three - languages, design methods, and tools.

I agree that technologies is a bit sweeping, but i think resources and sources is probably a bit sweeping as well. In my mind resources also refers to things such as hardware.

In my report i've divided the above things into languages, design methods and products, however i refer to all of these as technologies. I was just curious to see what kind of things people thought came under a technologies heading, and whether there was a better word to describe such things.
