Hi: I am just looking if somebody could give me some pointers (books, websites, sample code etc...) for DirectX especially Direct3D (Basic to HLSL). I had worked with C/C++ and OpenGL for 5 years including OpenGL 2.0. Also I am actively looking for a job in the graphics/game related industry. I see a lot of postings for DirectX so decided to give it a shot. Any suggestions on how to break into a game industry as a fresher (but very good 3D math and programming skills) ?. What is the right place to look for game/graphics related jobs ? Thanks!

The problem with this is that your graphics card may be driver-compliant with DirectX9, but it doesn't implement *all* of the features that the DX9 specs require. To determine what your graphics card actually supports, run Caps Viewer after you install the SDK.

Since your a seasoned graphics programmer, I think D3D shouldn't be too hard (the hardest part of it for people is usually the graphics theory part, which you already understand). For some good links, try this page. I'd recommend starting at the introductory tutorials, just to get yourself familiar with how everything works in D3D9, as opposed to OGL.

If you're going to buy any D3D books, get the ShaderX2 series (edited by Wolfgang Engel). They are a great source of reference for HLSL (the Nvidia SDK is, also).

I haven't heard a comment on this one.

Thanks!
