Are there any programs out on the Net which can allow me to create a theme song for a game without knowledge of music notation? I already have a theme in mind, now I need to write the song, but I don''t know diddly about how to write traditional "sheet music".

I don''t remember any but, you know, music is based upon math, if you can hear the tune/rythem in your head, you shoud (with a little experimenting) be able to convert it to sheet .
If you can''t find a starting point to learn about music/notes i''ll jump at it, just send me an e-mail.

You are absolutely right about the mathematical nature of music. It''s all in the tones and the spacing of the notes. Of course, there are other fine and mineut things that can be added to bring more feeling into music that only a human being playing it can add. In terms of your theme however, there are programs that don''t use musical notation that are very good.

I don''t know diddly squat about music notation myself and my harddrive is full of tunes that I''ve been composing for years. Some of them very good, one in fact won me a $1000 scholarship!

I recommend you look into Impulse Tracker v2.14 (I believe it''s the latest version, I could be wrong)

You''ve gotta sit down with the documentation for a bit, but you can crank out a melody pretty quite, and you''ll soon find out exactly how mathematical it can be. There is all Scream Tracker 3.x, which is essentially the predecessor of Impulse Tracker. It doesn''t have as many features and the sound output is restricted to 8-bit sound output unless you have a Gravis Ultrasound card (wonder if anyone knows what those are anymore.)

These two programs are DOS based, so I hope you have a halfway decent soundcard (Creative Labs Sound Blaster something or other.) Because the drivers are custom design by the programmer.

Hope you get to bring the theme in mind to reality. I know I''ve reaped tons of enjoyment from taking tunes from my mind and making them real music with programs such as these.

Alternatively, try ModPlug Tracker which runs under Windows. It can read/write Impulse Tracker files, along with FastTracker ones, ScreamTracker, etc etc.
