Sometimes when a thread loads, some dark mojo goes on behind the scenes and bad stuff happens, the following is a picture of what happens.
Sorry if this is a repost, just figured if it wasn't, you'd prolly want to know. I've had it happen a few times (once every few days or so) on the message boards, but never on the front page, if that's of any consequence. I can't remember if I saw it on the old boards or not, either. - Jordan
Can't say that happens to me, but other browser weirdness has been...
For one, none of my forums can remember my handle. I click [remember my password] and [log in automatically] whenever I see it, but to no avail.
Also, I've had problems with tables misaligning(like how it moves under the previous table when there's no horizontal space), and for some reason Fark.com never loads the first time. It only displays the page after I click "refresh".

My guess is content negotiation between your browser and the web server. Mozilla sends a prefered "quality" level in the Content-Type property in HTTP requests. I assume that if Mozilla can't GET the content of a preferred quality in time, it lowers the default preferrence and sends another request. The lower quality page would then be returned. This would look like this in an HTTP Request:
Content-Type: text/html: q=1.0, */*, ...
*taking too long, lower the quality*
=>
Content-Type: text/html: q=0.7, */*, ...
So, the server, instead of sending you the for granted, nice-looking forum style, it sends plain, crummy html instead. This is only a guess. I have the same problem with Firefox. But it doesn't seem to happen because of how long it takes to get a page; it seems to happen at random times. It could be a bug in the browser :S

Did you check whether you've got cookies enabled?
The same thing happens to me. Cookies are enabled, or I wouldn't be posting this... Seems to continue to happen until I try "another way" or restart Firefox all together.

On that thing about ads... I don't use adblock myself because I've trained myself to ignore the ads. And even then, sometimes there might actually be a useful ad.
Yeah, I've trained myself to ignore the ads too for the most part, but they're still annoying, and the flashy ones still manage to piss me off. It helps speed up browsing too, not having to wait for the ads, I've had some pages just pause loading because the ad server is down.
Adblock gets my Stamp Of Approval®.

I have the cookies problem also, I specifically have my browser of except all cookies. This is the only forum that doesn't keep me logged in.

Looks like either your browser can't get the CSS, or decides not to utilize it. It happens to me some times too; generally it's just the request for the stylesheet timing out.
Agreed. But why does this happen. I can't pinpoint the exact factors that occur for this to happen.

Focus on the last part [wink]
The forum script comes up alright but when the style sheet gets loaded the server is proberly overloaded and can't serve the file?
