There have been a few posts regarding cryptography recently, and it's always been a subject of interest for me. However, it's also been a subject that I have practically no working knowledge in. Does anyone have any recommendations for a book or two that I could read that would not only explain the nuts and bolts of some of the common algorithms (I have math & cs degrees, so equations don't scare me) and also give code samples or resources to use some of the methods in applications?

This seems like a good place to hunt.

Here is some code that might be useful

If you want a general introduction to/history of cryptography, I'd recommend The Code Book. It doesn't have mathematical descriptions of the algorithms and definitely does not have any program listings. It is a very easy read for such a complicated subject.

For a good oveview of cryptography that discusses it in a slightly abstract sense (it won't give you algorithms or code, but it does discuss categories, how to use them, good practices, etc), Practical Cryptography might be a good reference. I can't say any more than might, as its the only book I've read on the subject but it wasn't bad =-)

Cryptonomicon, by neal Stephenson, is a decent (fictional) book with a focuc on cryptography.

I would also have to recommend The Code Book. Definitly a good read.

I've read The Code Book and I agree that it's good. I'm reading Cryptonomicon now. I haven't seen much on cryptographic algorithms yet, but I'm not that far into it.

The code book is a really good book.
From the ceasor cypher to quantum cryptography... [grin]. You'll finish it in no-time. (its a great book).

You could also look at This Not sure if it'll help you much tho.

Click here to patch the mozilla IDN exploit, or click Here then type in Network.enableidn and set its value to false. Restart the browser for the patches to work.
