I was wondering how people created all those great little games hacks, like for example...Commandos, someone once made a data de/compresser for the game, it allowed you to extrack bitmaps , etc. Well, I was wondering how someone would go about doing this? Like, finding out about the file format or whatever...I don''t have Commandos or the other program anymore, so I can''t email the person who it I think I have some idea...but just playing around with a Hex editor is tiresome. Follow the Way of the Hexeditor, little Grasshopper ...

I remember watching at 27 megs files for ... something ... and actually discovering a pattern, and then known values, and finally I was able to modify the content of my inventories in Ultima 7. some games are easier to modif than others, but the hexeditor is the Tool you want
Otherwise do like the rest and use cheatcodes !

youpla :-P

I used to run a Commandos site - The Commando Centre. Anyway, the source for the program that extracted the Commandos datafile is available at Casablanca. I think you can find the e-mail address of the person who made it in the readme.
