Text Adventure

Original Post
I recently made a guess the number game as some of you may have read my last post. It works and I finsished it, when I get home from school Thursday i''m going to add a score tabulator as well as a life counter or whatever you want to call it. Anyway back to the reason i''m posting, someone suggested that I do a text adventure type game, I want to know if there are any tutorials on making a text adventure type game, I have looked at several places on the web and can''t find a tutorial, any info would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
The reason I posted this is because I have never played a text adventure game and am unfamiliar with the concept and how to make it, so please respond.

oops sorry i posted twice
I dont know of any "tutorial" on how to do a text adventure game. But I know of some source code around which you could expand. The question is, what do you think a text adventure game *IS* ?
If I ask this, it''s not to be annoying, but rather because most of th time, our problems come from not being able to clearly express what we want. Maybe ifyou tell us what you really want, someone could help you better, or you could even find out by yourself what to look at ?
Anyway, develop your question, and I''ll have one or two links to give you
youpla :-P

Well I think that a text adventure is a game that gives you many choices, with each individual input leading to a different situation ot something similar. But the game is in an adventurous setting such as military combat or the like.
Mmm, so my links wont help. Perhaps you should try to look for some MUD source code ? If you don''t know what a MUD is, try to play one, this perhaps would give you ideas.
As well, now that you have a description of what you want, maybe ou can look for a data structure, a system, that would help you put that in place ? something "that gives you many choices, with each individual input leading to a different situation " as you say it yourself
I seriously dont think you''ll ever find a "how to do this kind of game 101" tutorial. Or it''s a big fat book and the guy writing it is gonna get money from doing so. But looking for all the separate pieces that compose such a game can be done, that''s what being a programmer is for, after all
So there you go soldier, dig that Net and find some goodies !
youpla :-P
ps : and good luck, if you have more question, I suggest you develop the design of your idea, and ask in the Game Design forum ?

i say you better start with really simple graphics instead of doing text adventure
for example, make a pong game in graphics mode
then add a bit to it to make it arkanoid type (just hitting the block)
then add an scoring system
and finally different levels
and then you can say that you came up with a pretty neat game programming experience
Nazrix is a yet-to-be-determined-cool half-liberitarian half-not-nihilistic-anymore-but-plain-confused messiah

A text adventure game is like any other game except that the entire UI is through text! All input is textual, or picking a number from a menu, etc.
Its actually almost the same in terms of designing it. The only difference is how it''s presented. I''m working on a text adventure game, but I don''t know how popular those things are anymore, and I''m having trouble with the design, like any other game i ever started.

I'm working on one as a side project, which means I only work on it when I feel like it.
It's a submarine game set in a Waterworld (the movie, not the park) type of reality. You can hire crew members, fight battles, and socialize. So if you diss someone in the game, they might get back at you later. Or if you do them a favor, they might do you one in return.
I'll be releasing it within the next two years.
