What is going on with my buddy list here? I have the new version 5.9. I go to add a buddy to my list and it crashes and says "One or more of the additions or modifications to your Buddy List were not able to be saved." I only have 162 on there, so I am not over the limit. Then it randomly removes people from my list. Now I only have 137 people on it. Frustrated, I load my backup list that I saved. It builds up the list (I can see all the names appear), but then it gives that message again and takes them all away. I repeat this, and this time it gives me the same message but also deletes all of my buddies. I now have 0. If I try to manually add even just one buddy, I get the same message. This is pissing me off. What the hell is going on here? This is not the first time either. I just downloaded the new version (after having not used AIM for a couple years) and it did this same crap to my old names, as well as several new names I had to make up because I thought it wasn't going to work at all with the old names. But I went through a couple names, and it seemed to work on this new-NEW name, but now it does it again. WHAT THE FRICK? Thanks for any help.
You've been IRC'd by the Internet Chatting Committee. Have a nice day and remember

I like gaim, it's similar to trilian. Gaim
Wait, I can use Gaim or Trillian instead of AIM? But I am still able to talk to the people I know on AIM (everyone I know uses AIM)? Is that correct?
Which is better? Which has more features and such?
Also, what will I look like to people on AIM if I am on Trillian or Gaim?
What screen name would I use?

You use the same screen name. You are still signing in to the same Aim servers. As far as I know you look the same to people using Aim. I dont' know which one has more features. I guess you could try both and see which one you like better.
Or you can use an IRC client with Bitlbee. I originally did it because I was on IRC often, and Trillian's IRC client kinda sucks. I just tried Trillian 3.0 but it feels bloated, so I guess I'll be staying with Bitlbee for the forseeable future.
Bitlbee supports AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo. There are no fancy features, but aside from file transfers I don't need them.
If you want to try it really quickly, go to irc://im.bitlbee.org.

With Gaim or Trillian, not only can you talk to your AIM buddies, but you can also talk to people on MSN, Yahoo, and others at the same time. You have one buddy list with all of your buddies from any IM that you use. With Gaim, I use AIM, MSN, and YIM, and it has everyone on one buddy list. I don't need to know which network they're on; it uses the right screenname of mine to talk to them. And it doesn't have ads or spyware like AIM does. And I can go back or away from all of them at the same time.
