Since it's the time when everyone goes to christmas/new year parties, I'd like to know everyone's opinion on drinking. (What) do you drink? How much do you drink? What is your opinion on the minimum age of purchase? Any regretful incidents? :/ I am 16 and drink occassionally, usually on special ocassions and when I'm with my parents or friends. I have never drunk to the point of a serious hangover or loss of memory and enjoy it that way. I do not think drink is necessary to have a good time but it does help, especially when you're with boring people :P I think there should be varying levels of purchase minimum ages (like in some European countries), with beers and wines being able to be bought at 16 (the age for all alcohol is 18 in this country). I think this kind of positive thinking towards alcohol will help curb the binge drinking problem in this country. Anyway, your experiences, please!
When I was younger I like dstrong drinks, such as Vodka and some other romanian traditional strong drinks I don't know their name in english.
First time I got drunk was at the 8th grade end party :) the principal wanted to send me home, because I was too drunk, but I guess I managed to talk my way out of it (I don't remember anything I said, that's what my friends told me) :D
Then I got drunk again (really, really bad) when I was 17. Then the last time I got drunk I was 19, with some friends in the mountains. I felt so sick the next day that I sweared to myself I'll never get drunk again. And since that day, I didn't. I still drink, mainly beer and wine, but not enough to get drunk.
As for the legal age, I don't think there should be any legal age, just that people under 16 (or maybe 18?) shouldn't be able to BUY it.

I don't drink alcohol. The most I've ever had was 1 beer, because it was given to me and I didn't want to offend the host, and I figured one beer would have negligible effects (and I was correct).
I don't drink because a lot of people I know who do act stupid and make bad decisions (e.g., sleep with their gf's best friend).
Obviously I don't have to drink excessively, but it seems like it is not the easiest thing to control.

Quote:Vodka and tequila mostly, and wine occaisonally.
(What) do you drink?
Quote:Maybe two or three drinks in a week, and almost never more than one in a day.
How much do you drink?
Quote:I think 21 is a little high in this country. I think 18 would be fair, since you are technically an adult then. I don't see why not.
What is your opinion on the minimum age of purchase?

Any regretful incidents? :/

Water.

A few litres a day I guess.

Hopeless. How can you stop people who are underage getting access to the stuff, when we have all these taps everywhere?

Yeah, one time I drank a bit too much too quickly. It caused me to puke back up my dinner. I'd advise everyone to be careful, and drink in moderation.
I generally drink ale's or stouts, but I do move onto the shorts after about 10-12 pints. How much do I drink? That varies quite considerably. Technically I've drunk enough alcohol to kill the average adult in 5 hours, however, I've only done that once. 3 years ago. I generally drink over the recommended amount per week ( only because that's shit small ), so... I dunno. Average night out... 6 pints? If I stay out a bit longer on a weekend or something, maybe 10-12 pints. Over Christmas I tend to consume far too much wine. Far far too much wine.
18 seems a pretty good age to me.
Lots, of regretful incidents, and I'm not going to get into them here.

Depends. You're right in that if you start drinking, its easier to keep on going, but if you don't drink to excess you can easily control how much you drink. I don't think alcohol is for you.

I think 21 sucks too. I actually think it works against stopping young people binge drinking because it makes it more tempting, sort of like a forbidden fruit. The more liberal French laws are in place and they have a healthy attitude to alcohol.

lol, me and a friend have a running joke about him drinking "straight 100% water" and how he should do it in moderation.
Anyone drink Jagermeister here? It's my life's ambition to taste it...any good?
I'm much the same as python_regious. With me once the 2nd to 3rd pint has gone down (usualy within the first hour) its like a switch goes in my head and I've just got to keep sinking them. Seems to be the way it is with most people in the UK. Once downed £20 worth of top row in one go at my 'hazaa I just landed a swish job' party. Remember 10 minutes of getting wobbly from the feet up and then waking up at 4 in the afternoon. Apparently I was quite drunk. The wobbly bob I'd been drinking earlier didn't help either.

yup, excellent winter drink, makes you feel all hot inside :)
And apperently it makes you horny. You'll be lucky to get it up after a bottle though.

I just became unconscious, I don't even wanna think about the amount of alcohol I had drunk back then. I doubt I'd had anything below 70% that night (except for one or two beers).

I didn't have a bottle of it, just a glass :p
Jagermeister is good it tastes like black licorice or root beer, mostly the latter.
I drink like 8-14 beers in a night, usually thursday through saturday (but sometimes on other days too, im not a bigot)
8-14 beers with conversions like 1 shot = 1 beer, 1 mixed drink = NOTHING BECAUSE THEY ARE GIRLY AND WEAK, and after awhile, 2 beers = 1 beer, then 3 beers = ? because I start losing my train of thought.....peace im out

I think those whom drink to have a good time and not for the flavour simply are stuck up and don't know how to have a good time.
When you're my age and still at school, you're limited to how much fun you can have. You could be right but I don't think that means you shouldn't drink at all.

(What) do you drink?
When I was younger, I was into the harder stuff. But when you go into your twenties, you usually calm down. It's mostly beer and wine for me. Sometimes a good whiskey, a chouchenn (regional stuff) or some random cocktail, but all in all, it's quite rare.

Never to the point of no return. I like to keep my mind rational.

Pfff.. It's 16 here I think, but there's no age limitation on consumption of soft alcohol. It's OK I guess.

Yes, one :)
I drink quite regularly. I remember when I was 12 years old having a pint of Tennents lager and a bag of Tortilla chips for playing "Vegas Stakes" on the SNES [smile] I mostly drink Cafferys or 70 or 80 Shilling now. Sometime I finish off with a good Scottish whiskey like "Highland Park". I have built up a high tolerance to alcohol and have never got myself in to a state where I don't know what I am doing. I have never been in trouble because of it. I firmly believe people should know their limit.

Anything but tequila or bourbon. I used to be a huge fan of bourbon, and could drink it straight like water, but now even the smell of it makes me feel sick. These days I usually drink vodka, beer, kaluha, and girly drinks like vodka cruisers(they taste like soft drink, but they get you pissed, who can complain?).

How much do you drink?
Usually enough to get into my "happy zone". It's enough to give me a hangover the next day if I don't drink plenty of water before sleepies, but not enough that I throw up over everyone. There was the one time when I went beyond my happy zone at a friend's 18th, and threw up everywhere, in front of nearly everyone at the party(about 15-25 people). I learned from that experience, and now know *not* to drink 2/3 of a bottle of vodka over 2 hours and then mixing it with random stuff that people keep handing to me.

It's 18 here, and I think that that's a fairly reasonable age. It annoys me a bit though, because almost all of my friends are now 18 and going out to clubs and stuff all the time, while I'm not 18 until september '05. I get a lot of payouts about the fact that I won't be able to buy alcohol until second semester of my first year of university.

Well, there was the story above about throwing up in front of everyone at that party. I found out the next day that some of my ammunition hit the host's younger sister. My favourite regretful incident though, was at the afterparty for the Year 12 Revue(this big performance that year 12 put on every year at my school), where I drank half a bottle of vodka in about 50 minutes, and then ran around this house without my shirt on in front of over half of year 12 and a lot of randoms, yelling my lines from the Revue. There were some regrets there, but on the whole it was pretty fun. I also got a fair few amusing comments at school on the following monday.
So yeah, in my opinion, drinking = fun for all.

I quite like lots of drinks, except tequila, that stuff's dirty. And it burns when you get it in your eye.
Bourbon is my favourite though when mixed, and vodka is nice in shots [and they both don't give you hangovers muchly, particularly vodka]

I'm under the legal age - so I can't drink in bars etc. I can only drink at parties at peoples' houses, so I usually only drink what I take - which depends on my mood.
Of course, if someone I know well offers me a drink and they're repaying me in some way or something [ala Orbviper's yr12 revue party, which I was director for] I have drunk quite a lot.
Usually though in a night, I'd take about 450mL of spirit. After that I'm really quite affected [depending on how much food I've had - usually pig out on potatos and chips before going], but I think I've only ever thrown up once, and even then I can't remember it. My record is 8 full shots of vodka and a cruiser in ~30 minutes, then we ran out of vodka, but that was at our end of school schoolies/whatever you call it.

It's 18 here, and I think that's fine for buying alcohol. If I want to drink, then someone [either my brother or my parents - and occasionally some of my friends] will know how much of what I've had and that's a good thing IMO.
Of course, with lots of people going to clubs and me not being able to, it's a bit of an irritation, but I can see the reasoning behind it.

Learning my limits... This one 18th I was pretty under the weather, but I had a nap [passed out on a gym mat out of the way] and was fine a couple of hours later. That was the night that I threw up. Fine in the morning though...
Nothing else regretful I guess, except maybe not having my wits about me when it could've counted. But we all get that.
