i've noticed taht when i draw a scene where polygons intersect, there are very ugly rendering problems at the intersection. when you move your view, you get these constantly changing jagged / wavy boundaries instead of a clean straight line boundary between the polygons. any idea what's going on here (or if openGL exhibits the same behavior?) thanks

It's called Z fighting and is the result of Z buffer precision.

If you're using D16, try D24X8, or D32 (many cards don't support D32).

Try increasing your projection matrix near plane.
