Hi! I'm planning my very first raytracer and would just like to ask what way is preffered to plot the pixels? Should I just use GDI, or am I better off using an API like OpenGL or DirectX? or should I do it in some other way? Thoughts apreciated!

If you are planning to use this raytracer to run in realtime, then I would go with OpenGL or Direct3D or something. If you're just using it to render in non-realtime, then anything is fine really.

Hope it helps, good luck and happy coding!

Check out my tutorials on ray tracing on flipcode: http://www.flipcode.com/articles/article_raytrace01.shtml . All articles have source code, and this shows how to get pixels to the screen (32bit rgb) using plain windows code. Feel free to replace the sample ray tracer by your own code. :)
