Can we get a sticky for people wanting to make stickers?
I would like to suggest VB Gamer. Visual Basic would be a great place to learn how to make games and you can find a wealth of tutorials through this site. you might also want to try out VB Explorer. Since you are using VB6 you might want to look at Voodoo VB as that site has some wonderful DirectX8/2D tutorials. Anyways, I do not right RPGs so I cannot really help you any more. Good luck on your endeavors!

Well, the first rule is that you should use what ever language you're comfortable with. Second, if you're new to programming start at something smaller and simpler and work your way up. I recommend that you'll go to the library or a book store and get a programming book or two.
If you don't want to use C++, that's fine. You should be atleast roughly understand how to read C and C++ code as it's most common language so most tutorials are written with C or C++.

but is vb a good language to use for games? i thought it was slow, is there any other languages
For simple 2D games I suppose but I wouldn't do a 3D engine with it ;) If you understand VB and are good at it use that. If you later want to do more advanced stuff you can learn a new language, which shouldn't be too hard.
EDIT: Try looking at these articles: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/list.asp?categoryid=44
You are going to have to try harder than that. I gave you three sites. One of which tells you exactly how to do 2D graphics in VB6 with DirectX8.
http://voodoovb.talosstudios.com/tutorialsdirectx8.html
There you go. The author put it up as "5D" graphics but that is because it is how to do 2D in 3D. Start reading...
*Sorry if I am a little rude right now...*

I think this tutorial gives a great intro to much groundcovering game stuff.. such as spritehandling, doubblebuffering and the "2D-thinking"
http://www.planetalia.com/cursos/Java-Invaders/JAVA-INVADERS-13.tutorial
-It's writen in java, which is a great language partualy because it's syntax is kind of C++:ish, and hey it's not that slow and mayby the coolest aspect is that it's all oop (object orientated) and kind of easy to master to the degree where you can do stuff :)
I did begin to study Java about half a month ago, for an assignment in school, in a course called "Game physics", though i have to say my project was simple and i did not use Java to its fullest, (because i did not rely know that much about java), but it have the physics down and handles kind of right :)
if you like to check it out:
www.ida.his.se/~a02krili/build/classes/spelfysik.html
you need to have Java JRE (runtime environment) pref. 5.0
and maybe you allso need the Java 3D (1.3.1)... so that should cover it...
well did not think it would be an addvertisment, sorry, it was meant as a reference.
Well with a little Java entusiasm I have to say Merry Christmas U all, and a happy new year!
