Which media player do you guys use? Some people tell me that I should really change from wmp9, but I am not sure I care. Could anyone put forth some convincing arguments as to why I should?

Eh, what exactly do you expect people to say here? Just use WMP if that's okay with you. If you're like me it doesn't make any difference anyway, unless the program leaves some resident junk on your system.

I use Winamp 5 and love it. It has better performance than WMP, and I like the interface better. The visualizations will amaze you. Winamp's Internet radio and TV let you find all kinds of media. (Middle Eastern techno, anyone?) There is also a plugin called Wombatshare that lets you share music with your friends like iTunes, but you can also save the files on your computer.

When I first started using it there was something I liked about the equalizer. It sounded different from WMP somehow; I don't remember exactly.

I also like having different apps for video and audio. That way, if I'm listening to a song in winamp, and I see a link to a video, I can pause my song, watch the video, and continue listening after the video is over.

The fact that Microsoft likes to insert text in it's Media Player EULA that it can disable any software on your PC which circumvents DRM is one reason I no longer use it.

Personally, I prefer Media Player Classic. It's an open source version of the old Media Player 6.0. It has a simple and clean interface compared to WMP9, which I personally prefer.

edit: Er, I meant to say I recommended MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC, not REAL MEDIA CLASSIC. :o

Windows Media Player 6.4 plus codecs. I don't like all the 'fantastic' features that come with the current versions.

I like rhythmbox, but others prefer beep-media-player or xmms.

Core media player for video and the great foobar for music.

JetAudio is great -- and the free version doesn't bitch at you about upgrading! (Yeah, fsck you MusicMatch.)

media player classic for movies; winamp for music.

And it's not called Real Media classic (I think you might be confused with a known bloatware program [grin]).

you can use media player classic along with anything, since it does not require any install (just a 1.2meg exe, that sits on my desktop) and won't interfere or steal file extentions (unless when you ask it to).

gotta try Videolan and Quintessential though.
Everything is better with Metal.
