I''m making a card game for Windows that I want to put in a window ala Solitaire, Freecell, Hearts, etc. I''ll start off by having the same feel as those games, but I''m not sure about how I would draw bitmaps (like cards) in a window. Right now all I can do is make the window have a dark green background. I''m not really familar with GDI. How do those Microsoft card games handle the drawing? I have a lot more experience in real-time full-screen DirectX based games, so this is kind of like a step backwards trying to do graphics with GDI. The other option I have is just using DirectX for all the graphics. The game would certainly have more potential, and it would probably be easier for me since I already know how to do it, but by using GDI the game could even run on my granny''s computer. Any suggestions? Alex

well...if u know DirectX stay with it...

after all u can:
1.Use IDirectDraw object (not IDirectDraw7 or 4)
2.Put all surfaces into system memory
3.Dont Flip .. instead just Blt a system backbuffer to primary

This way your game will run on your grand mamy computer...and any computer that has at least Win95 on it... but it will be harder to do than a gdi version... IMHO

If u want GDI no problem:
1.You have a GDI BitBlt function easy to use (allmost same as directX after all)
2.You can use Memory DC pretty much like a surface, u only have to select a bitmap into it first.

Hope this helps

Tell your grandma to install DirectX. But for some reason if you do want to use GDI, I covered a very simple GDI bitmap loader in one of my tutorials at my website (link below).
