I need to format some videos. Mainly, I need to change quicktime and realmedia (devil formats) into avi or mpeg. Know any good software? I don't mind shelling out some cash, but the freer the better.

I think Bink and Smacker (the first link) can work with quicktime and it's free. [EDIT]: Doesn't work with readmedia.

Google for "Quicktime alternative" and install it. It is a directshow decoder filter.
Then if you are able to read quicktime files with directshow there are plenty of applications to compress it to AVI...
