Hi all! I have tried to debug my DelphiX code, but it''s hard. If I don''t remember wrong, you can''t debug DirectX? Right? So how do you do when you debug DirectX (DelphiX)? Is there any simple way of doing that? Everytime I set an breakpoint, my program hangs. You can use an Showmessage for ex, but It''s horrible if you do it in the timer... Any Ideas? Thx in Advance, /Marco.

DirectX has special debug versions of the .DLLs. The myth that you can''t debug DirectX comes from the fact that you cannot use a debugger while in a full screen app.

If you set a breakpoint in a fullscreen app, it won''t bail out of the program to get to your debugger. So, you must either 1) work with log files*. 2) use another computer to debug remotely or 3) make your application run in a window. I recommend the window debugging, it really helps. (as long as you can use a debugger and effective watches)

*Remember to not write to a log file while you Lock() your video memory for read/writes, it will really hang your system.

Good luck.

I was able to debug normal DirectX app in Full-Screen mode on my NT5. The problem, though, was that the screen mode wasn''t restored at breakpoints and I had difficulty navigating (my usual screen mode is 1024x768 and application was setting 640x480).

I use a matrox dual head graphic card. Works fine, also in fullscreen. Delphi in on one monitor - application in the other...
Otherwise you should do debuging in window mode, because windows doesnt switch back the screen resolution.

! But you can not debug lines when using the surface.canvas object. If debuging this lines will ends in a crash

Except with Windows 2000
Even I was surprised that it didn''t crash at all
