Internet Problems

Original Post
My internet connection just evaporates after being connected for a while. There are no changes that I can detect, but I lose all internet connectivity until I restart. I'm sharing this connection with a roomate, and he doesn't have any problems, so it's definity a "my computer" thing. Problem is, I can't tell what's going on. I was going wireless for a while, but ditched it for wired because I thought the problem was related to my card (or the nature of the wireless beast). Turns out wired is no better for me. Programs that are connected mantain a connection (games, etc) until I finish, but there a point where no new connections can be established. Any ideas how to figure this one out?
Just installed MS's AntiSpyware and did the same tests everyone else did against ad-aware and spy-bot, so my computer should be pretty clean. :) Just ran Norton too and nothing came up. I'll try pinging next time it goes down. What'll that imply?
Man, and I tought this was a online dating thread [sad]
On a more serious note, a better description of the lan might help. I guess a router and two computers but if the connections goes through his PC and comes down to you from another NIC on his PC, there might be something shady going on there.
Check the router settings.
Run 'ipconfig /all' the next time the connection fails you and check the lease. Try an 'ipconfig /renew' when you lose connectivity to see if it works.

when i connect to 192.168.0.1 to configure thr router, the DHCP Server info reads like this:
1) It's enabled
2) Starting IP: 192.168.0.100
3) Ending IP: 192.168.0.199
4) Lease time: 1 week
Static DHCP is disabled.
In the router log I have a bunch of these entries at various times (don't remember if it was when I was connected or not): "dhcpc_input: pLeaseId NULL." Sounds bad. Does this help?
EDIT: Yeah, the network consists of a cable modem, a DLink router/Wireless Access Point, and 2 computers. My friend's work fine all the time. The Internet Gateway is disabled, because we don't want to use it, but I can't delete it for some reason. We both want to connect to the internet through the router, and that's how we configured our comps through Microsoft's wizard.

funny, I had a similar problem. A D-Link router too.
my DHCP was all fucked. It took me a long time to track it down, but it was to do with bollocked winsock libraries. I had to delete some registery key. THis happened when I installed a cheap wireless netgear usb card, and uninstalled it.
trying to find that article for you....

Thanks a bunch. I'll look into that when I get home. Plus I'll punch my rommate in the spleen for buying a DLink.

DLink is teh sukc!11!!one
I had only problems with it, and eventually switched back to a switch (my DSL modem has built in routing capabilities).
Heh, my linksys router slowly died on me (would have stability problems, eventually got to the point of it couldn't hold a dhcp address.)
So I got a dlink router. Worked perfectly for a long time, then one day just suddenly died (lights just all went out).
I said, screw this, so I got a $20 trendware router and $10 8 port 10/100 switch. Now I have more ports than I used to, and if it all dies I'm not out of whatever the brand name routers cost.
