Honestly, I still use Win95 SE. It seems the they''ve gotten progressivly more buggy with each release. As for Win2k, I just installed Server on my other comp, and aside from lack of drivers for my crappy video card, it seems to run fine. Anyone know where I can find Win2k drivers for a Diamond FireGL 1000? I tried their website and only found NT 4 drivers. But, anyways, the point is, I ain''t gonna trust Me on my main machine. 95 w/USB support works fine by me.

I personally think that sometime in the next 10 years MS is going to get too big and bloated that it will finally die. Until then, however it is the platform of choice... Just like the public school system, the software industry always looks for the lowest common denominator...

ok, windows is good, I don''t see how ppl whould try to get rid of windows and say linux/unix/anything else is more useful. The proper OS changes according to your needs. If you''re a gamedeveloper you should seriously consider using windows or your game will simply not sell...
ok, answer to this guy''s question: don''t EVER try win ME. I had it on my computer for 2 hrs. It''s the most awful OS ever created. go with win2k. or if you''re considering having more support for "older" games and cheaper price, try win 98 se

I know micro$oft made DOS, but it was far less buggy than Windows!!
DOS might have been less buggy than Windows, but Windows can do a whole lot more than DOS can (multitasking for example). And MS didn't make DOS, they bought it from some guy.
One of my friends really like ME, don't know why... I mean, practically none of his hardware will work on it (except for his sound card), and he still thinks it's really, really good... He's stuck in 640x480 resolution with an old 28.8k modem (he's got cable, but since his network card won't work in ME, he can't use it).
From what I've seen of ME, it's really bad. Haven't installed it on my own computer though, and I probably never will.

I think that the people who like Me haven''t replied to these threads for fear of getting flamed. I''m not sure I even bothered to post in the last discussion about Me. Well, anyway, I plan to buy the $50 upgrade from ebonline.com (Electronics Boutique) for the ICS software. It''s built on the Windows 9x source code so it''s compatible with more games than Windows 2000, plus it has a neat auto-upate feature.
It should also be compatible with all drivers from Windows 9x, so I don''t have to worry about my hardware being supported (i.e., Linux, Windows 2000).
I wish I could get a high speed Internet connection though.

If you are a video game developper you can make money if you work on Linux for exemple. I know that most of the gamer play on Windows so you may sell your game more expensive. If someone asks you why just answer "Well you see the matrix has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth"
or you can try "Well you see to make my game I''ve had to buy some stuffs like visual C++ and photoshop and 3DSMAX and all the stuffs I need to make my game on Linux were free..."
If every game developper do this maybe that gamers would prefer to play on Linux...

You can make money selling games on Linux? Where''d you get that from? Even id Software hasn''t had a good run selling Quake III on linux (For more info on this, search the gamedev.net archives. Sorry, I can''t remember which month).
Besides, people who use Linux are used to getting things for free. Heck, they even demand that things be free. Who''s going to write software for a target audience like that?

ok, as an independant game developer, it IS to your benefit to use linux. but who''s making the big bucks? independant developers or those huge big ass game companies? and I''m pretty sure they don''t mind buying 20 licenses of visual c++ and stuff.
and again, we''re all computer lit people in here. but you have to assume that 95% of the computer users have no clue how to work with computer (correctly). and I don''t think any of them want to use linux/. simply, go to store and see if they have any home systems with a non windows/(macintosh) OS on them...
I''m not saying that you''re wrong. but you have to consider the marketting side of your game too.
o ya, if you really wanna make money outta game development, try N64, PS2, DC
now let''s get back to this guy''s problem. win ME... (it stinks terribly)
...
Win2k!
I haven''t tried ME, but some of my friends have...needless to say, they have all had a few problems...

65K bugs, I''ve had RAM smaller than that. Probably even more in ME. Perhaps I''ll just stick with my config now for a while, for ME''s most prominent feature is a My Pictures folder.

Yeah, I''ve heard the 65k bug story too...
And in the past 8 months running Win2k, I have seen about 0 of those bugs

Ah...I just upgraded to Windows Me. No troubles, no hassles, no headaches. The normal upgrade sells for about $90 here, but I got the special upgrade version for $50, which had been marked down to about $40. Nice...
It''s been running fine ever since I installed it. For some reason, my PS/2 keyboard and mouse seem to work a lot more smoothly - better multitasking?
YMMV

Please state the nature of the debugging emergency.

TO the guy going on about the Linux version of QUake III not selling...
Did the thought ever cross you mind this is because many people who use Linux dual-boot with Windows as the other operating, so they bought the Windows version first, then downloaded the LInux binaries?
After careful deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that Nazrix is not cool. I am sorry for any inconvienience my previous mistake may have caused. We now return you to the original programming

I think Windows ME is ok *if* all your hardware works on it. Once it''s up and running, to me it''s just like a 98 clone with a few more perks and a few less crashes. in short, if you''re willing to go the 90 bucks and give it a whirl, do it, if everything works you''ll have a slightly better OS, if not... i suppose you might be able to return it.
